Marie, who searches for the truth about his heritage. Stars Gloria Reuben, Peter Gallagher, Jennifer Beals, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Pam Grier, James Earl Jones, Eartha Kitt, Ben Vereen and Forest Whitaker. Special DVD features include interviews with director and cast, "The Making of 'Feast of All Saints." Based on Anne Rice's epic novel about free African Americans living in New Orleans before the Civil War, THE FEAST OF ALL SAINTS tackles ambitious and fascinating subject matter. Peter Gallagher stars as Philippe Ferronaire, a white landowner who has two families: one with his white wife and another with a black woman named Cecile (Gloria Reuben). Trouble begins when Marcel (Robert Ri'chard), Philippe's son by Cecile, learns of his heritage and finds that he can no longer marry the woman he loves because of it. Soon, Marcel has discovered the duplicitous nature of his family's social circle, and begins to realize that the social hierarchy is far more dangerous and mysterious than he ever imagined. Great Movie - Very Educational This movie took place in the 1800's in New Oreleans. It was very informative and educational. It started out with the union of a White Plantation owner and a "freed woman of color" which produced a illegitimate son called Marcel who goes on to fall in love with Annabella but does not stay with her. He goes on to pursue a career as an apprentice and leaves town and everyone he knows. During this time frame in the 1800's, these "freed women of color" were caught between two cultures yet belong to neither. Marcel is crossing the line demanding to be recognized. He is the threat that could bring down Southern society. This movie also touches on how these "freed women of color" meet these White landowners through the Quadroon balls. This is a great movie to watch if you want to learn about "freed people of color" during the 1800's. This movie has a all star cast which includes Gloria Rubin, Peter Gallagher, Jennifer Beals, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Pam Grier, Jasmine Guy, James Earl Jones, Eartha Kitt, Ben Vereen, Forest Whiter and Robert Ri'chard. Superb I loved this movie tremendously. There was one young woman who made me sad. She was the half sister of Marcel. It futher saddened me that she finally attained her freedom after maliciously decieving her half sister. She took her life since she could not bare the sins of her criminal endeavour. If she hadn't betrayed her sister I know she would want to live. I only wish she hadn't done that inhumane thing to her half sister but what could she do being enslaved by her own father- only develop hatred and bitterness.
