| | Bmx Bandits On The Radio CD Bmx Bandits Discography of CDs
BMX Bandits, the Scottish pop group founded and fronted by Duglas T. Stewart, had been releasing records for nearly 20 years yet remained virtually unknown to the masses. Sharing studio time and members with Teenage Fanclub through much of their existence, the Bandits are capable of creating intelligent and witty pop that touches the heart while tapping the toes. If you can imagine Mike Love singing lead for Teenage Fanclub, then you're closer to understanding the magic of the Bandits. A comprehensive compilation would be the best introduction to the band, but since the band has recorded for numerous labels (including Creation, Vinyl Japan, and others), On the Radio is probably the closest you're going to get to a best-of. Stripping away the studio shine, this collection of BBC radio broadcasts is charming, raw, and infectious. This is the Bandits doing what they do best, and having a great time doing it. Apart from group classics like "Getting' Dirty," "Little Hands," "Green Grow the Rushes," and "Hello Again," Duglas and the boys (including longtime partner in crime Francis MacDonald) pull out cool oddities like "Groovy Good Luck Friend," "Take 5," "Flipper," and a great cover of Jonathan Richman's "Since She Started to Ride." Some tracks, like the ultracatchy "Strawberry Sundae," get lost in poor sound quality, but that's only a minor complaint when there is so much more to love. Thankfully, Duglas and Francis have continued down this thankless path for as long as they have, because the music world needs more bands like BMX Bandits. And yes, they did take their name from the early-'80s film starring Nicole Kidman. ~ Steve "Spaz" Schnee
The BMX Bandits were formed in Bellshill, Lanarkshire in 1985 by Duglas Stewart the band were so-named as Duglas didn't expect them to last longer than one gig. Little was he to know - almost 20 years later Vinyl Japan presents a retrospective of their radio sessions. The band were core members of the NME-coined C86 movement. In fact their ever changing line-up featured members of the Faith Healers, Soup Dragons, Teenage Fanclub & the Vaselines - all of whom were influential at the time. Includes three bonus tracks, 'Green Grow The Rashes', 'Hey Little Tomboy' (both featuring Pearfishers), & 'Someone To Share My Life With'. Vinyl Japan.

On The Radio album
$19.98 It's a commonly held opinion among fans and band alike that Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' lone live album, 1986's Pack Up the Plantation, didn't quite capture the group at its peak, so there has been a long-standing need for another live set, which 2009's Live Anthology finally provides. Like its closest cousin, Bruce Springsteen's Live 1975-1985, Live Anthology almost overcompensates for the long wait by offering almost too much music, cherrypicking highlights from 1978 to 2007. In its simplest incarnation, Live Anthology is a super-affordable, four-disc box set running 48 tracks, which is eight cuts longer than ...
| | John Mayer Battle Studies CD (2009)
On The Radio CD music
$11.17 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." ...

| | Beyonce I Am...Sasha Fierce CD (2008) Bonus Track; Deluxe Edition
On The Radio CD music
$9.99 I AM. SASHA FIERCE represents another change of pace for Beyoncé. Unlike the relatively streamlined, retro-soul inflected B'DAY, I AM... is a sprawling two-disc set designed to reflect two conflicting sides of Beyoncé's musical personality. The first disc sports reflective, sometimes moody ballads, while the second, attributed to Beyoncé's brash alter ego, Sasha Fierce, is loaded with propulsive dance-floor fillers. Except for this stylistic divide, I AM. pays only nominal attention to its supposed concept, focusing instead on a set of excellent, radio-ready songs--neatly avoiding the possibility of I AM. becoming ...
| | Rockin' Is Not Our Business! CD (1998)
On The Radio music CDs
$16.89 On the surface, this collection would seem a tongue-in-cheek affair, cobbling together 20 white-white-white cover versions of R&B hits of the early '50s. But with scant few examples (Vaughn Monroe's version of Fats Domino's "All By Myself"), this is an interesting collection that is no laughing matter. You're not going to hear ...

Re-teaming with French electro-pop producer Mirwais, (who also lent his talents to 2000's MUSIC), Madonna uses her perspective as a globally famous ex-pat living in England to comment on the USA's spiritual state throughout AMERICAN LIFE. Prominently featuring plenty of acoustic guitar among the synth-soaked swooshes and Euro-disco ...
