Art Of Carmen Mcrae/For Once In My Life Music Review
Customer Art Of Carmen Mcrae/For Once In My Life Reviews
Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars)
A good sampler from the Atlantic years Carmen McRae's talent defies strict categorization to this day. In her early years, she focused on singing pop tunes with a jazz tinge; as she neared the end of her life, she devoted herself almost entirely to jazz. I have always enjoyed her Atlantic recordings, which fell somewhere between. Her renditions of otherwise ephemeral pop tunes of the day made them memorable and worth listening to three and four decades later. Her interpretation of great standards added to their timelessness.
This reissue includes what was a two-LP set on vinyl, comprised of a mixture of live and recorded performances. Atlantic tastefully did NOT call it "Carmen's Greatest Hits" ... the second CD is a digital remaster of a complete LP. In other words, you are getting 3 LPs in this package. It's a great way to remember a talent sorely missed, or to introduce yourself to her. Thank you for the music, Carmen! Submitted by jbsientz (Salt Lake City, UT) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
