2003 remastered reissue of the metal act's 1988 album features 16 tracks, packaged in a digipak. Snapper.

Also available in a 3-pack with THE LAST COMMAND and W.A.S.P.
W.A.S.P.: Blackie Lawless (vocals, guitar); Chris Holmes (guitar); Johnny Rod (bass guitar, background vocals).
Additional personnel: Ken Hensley (keyboards); Frankie Banali (percussion); Diana Fennell, Lita Ford, Mark Humphreys, Jimi Image, Minka Kelly, Thomas Nellen, Cathi Paige, Mike Solan, Kevin Wallace, Melba Wallace, Ron Wallace (background vocals).
This 1998 reissue includes 6 bonus tracks and liner notes by Dante Bonutto.
With 1988's The Headless Children, W.A.S.P. attempted to be taken as serious artists (for the most part). And while singer/guitarist/leader Blackie Lawless expressed excitement about the band's current lineup, which included longtime guitarist Chris Holmes, bassist Johnny Rod, Quiet Riot drummer Frankie Banali, and Uriah Heep keyboardist Ken Hensley -- the complete group never toured. With the band concentrating more on the music than the gimmicks (the group was pictured sans ghoulish makeup and costumes), The Headless Children remains W.A.S.P.'s most accomplished work. The album's best-known tracks remain their cover of the Who's Quadrophenia anthem "The Real Me" and the rocking "Mean Man" (an autobiographical tale about guitarist Holmes), while a pair of epics -- "The Heretic" and the title track -- and perhaps W.A.S.P.'s best ballad, "Forever Free," were also standouts. While longtime fans may prefer the gross-out heavy metal of their early albums (W.A.S.P. and The Last Command), The Headless Children is their best constructed album. [The 1998 CD reissue contained six added bonus tracks -- among them a cover of Jethro Tull's "Locomotive Breath" and live versions of "L.O.V.E. Machine" and "Blind in Texas."] ~ Greg Prato

5 stars One Of Their Very Best
WASP is a band with some great albums in their catalog, and some definite skippers. The Headless Children is most definitely an essential, and a nice compromise between the cartoon shock-rock of their early albums and the overblown bombast of later albums like Crimson Idol and the Neon God series. Frankie Banali's drumming is excellent as well. There reallyisn't a weak song on the album, which you can't say about many WASP releases. From the epic tracks like "The Heretic" and "The Headless Children," to the more simplistic but completely rocking "Mean Man" and "Maneater," to the emotional ballad "Forever Free" this is just great heavy metal, with the emphasis on the songs rather than the schtick. This one ranks right up there with the self-titled and The Last Command as the band's best work.

3 stars the best is headless
This album is my favorite album because it sounds truly spooky and Blackie sings about scary things instead of sex. This is their album where they sound scary and fast at the same time. All the songs on it are good but the ultimate freakshow on the album is the headless children

Soundgarden's finest hour, Superunknown is a sprawling, 70-minute magnum opus that pushes beyond any previous boundaries. Soundgarden had always loved replicating Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath riffs, but Superunknown's debt is more to mid-period Zep's layered arrangements and sweeping epics. Their earlier punk influences are rarely detectable, replaced by surprisingly effective appropriations of pop and psychedelia. Badmotorfinger boasted more than its fair share of indelible riffs, but here the main hooks reside mostly in Chris Cornell's vocals; accordingly, he's mixed right up front, floating over the band instead of cutting through it. The rest of the production is just as crisp, with the band achieving a huge, robust sound that makes even the heaviest songs sound deceptively bright. But the most important reason Superunknown is such a rich listen is twofold: the band's embrace of psychedelia, and their rapidly progressing mastery of songcraft. Soundgarden ...

Influenced by blues greats Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy, Willie Dixon, and the three Kings (all of whom he name-checks in the aptly titled "Carrying on the Torch of the Blues"), Popa Chubby (aka Ted Horowitz) brazenly ventures into more contemporary waters while remaining true to his rootsy influences and the spirit of the genre. While the hip-hop beats and Chubby's rapping are a little awkward on the album's opening "Daddy Played the Guitar and Mama Was a Disco Queen" (a video of the track is ...

Photographer: Maria Sjöholm.
Two full decades after the release of 1986's underestimated Seventh Star album, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi and journeyman vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes (Trapeze, Deep Purple, etc.) decided the time had come for them to work together once again. Ensconcing themselves in Birmingham's DEP Studios, the duo composed and recorded eight tracks for release, but when Iommi was suddenly called into action with a re-formed and regularly touring original Sabbath, the work in progress was abandoned, filed away, and then, naturally, quickly bootlegged under the imaginative title of Eighth Star. Thus the tracks would remain for eight full years, until Iommi and Hughes finally reconvened to tidy them up with the help of keyboardists Don Airey and Geoff Nicholls, have Jimmy Copley re-record the drum tracks originally laid down by erstwhile Judas Priest man Dave Holland (since jailed for child abuse!), and give them an official release as The 1996 DEP Sessions. Now, ...

The whole thing really leaps into life, revealing many a nuance and subtlety previously buried in the mix. This was, and remains, my favourite TK disc, refining and developing the sound in no small measure, with the monumental Krigssang II shining brightly, with mucho mellotron, synth and bass solos amongst the riff-rocking guitars to please the greedy prog fan. Whilst retaining a uniquely Swedish character, there are also similarities with Yes Album era Yes. The shrieking falsetto vocals provide a distinctly different flavour, which still startle after repeated listens. Over 17 minutes, this epic track never fails to hold the attention. Marvellous! The disc is worth getting just for that track, but there are plenty of other goodies too – from the moody title track with its unmistakeable Swedish character ...
