5 stars The Best Score for a Western I've heard
It's a shame the very talented Michael Kamen who wrote the beautiful score for this movie is not with us anymore. Kamen has written many other scores and one important score for the Hanks, Spielberg television production "Band of Brothers". For Open Range, he captures the wild beauty of the west. Kamen describes each scene brilliantly and each cut begs for your attention, especially the gorgeous Open Range main title. The rhythmns of cattle drives and gunfights and his music for other scenes in this movie are magnificent.

3 stars awesome sound to great movie
The soundtrack brings life to the entire film. Just by listening to the cd only you get to hear so much more of the subtle nuances that can be overshadowed by the film. Very clean sound and powerful bass.

This is a Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players. John Barry's fifth Oscar-winning score is a profoundly moving body of music, generally (though not entirely) elegiac in tone, very much like the movie for which it was written. It's also a bit of a mixed bag, occasionally falling back on material that will be familiar to fans of the James Bond movies that Barry scored during the early/mid-'60s. The main title theme uses some of those devices -- dense, heavy string passages adjacent to trumpet calls -- but it is hardly representative of the full score.
