| | Javier CD Javier Discography of CDs
(19 Customer Reviews)
Javier's self-titled debut disc is a smoothly executed, spare-no-expense foray through old-school R&B, helmed by a variety of veteran producers including the Underdogs (B2K, Brandy) and the team that brought you Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears, among other contemporary pop icons. But don't be fooled by the upscale company he keeps--Javier has an extensive store of influences from which to draw.
Elements of '70s icons like Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, and Donny Hathaway appear in the ornately romantic "Song For Your Tears" and the album's jazzy extended finale, "October Sky," which features a couple of jazz legends in noted pianist Mulgrew Miller and trumpeter Roy Hargrove (the latter no stranger to this kind of jazz/R&B crossover). It's obvious that Javier's roots run deep. But though this album is an open display of where the singer is coming from, it's clear both from his confidence in his choice of material and his subtle execution of these songs that his start as frontman for the Derek Trucks band is long behind him. He's found his true musical calling.
Personnel: Javier (vocals, acoustic guitar, piano); Carl Sturken (guitar, keyboards); Terry Wollman (acoustic guitar); Dean Parks, Evan Rogers, Michael Thompson (guitar); Larry Campbell (pedal steel guitar); Roy Hargrove (trumpet); Mulgrew Miller, Roni Skies (piano); Omar Edwards (Hammond B-3 organ); Kevin Cloud (synthesizer, programming); Nathan East, Michael Elizondo, Peter Washington (bass); Karriem Riggins (drums, programming); Ahmir ?uestlove (drums); Charles Crawford (vinyl scrathces); Evan Rogers, Harvey Mason, Jr. (background vocals).

Why haven't I heard his music before? He is an amazing artist, the CD is fantastic and I'm so happy that I found his CD while doing a random search on my Rhapsody player. I had never heard of him before but once I listened to his CD, I was hooked! It was definitely money well spent! Submitted by a reviewer (Seattle, WA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Surprisingly Disappointing I bought the CD based upon the great first single, "Crazy". I instantly found myself bored - The tracks lacked flavor. I must say, though, that I'm a tough critic. If I'm not moved after the first few songs, I tend to disassociate. I will give the CD another listen, and still urge others to give it a go. Javier album
$15.49 COME AWAY WITH ME won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical).
"Don't Know Why" won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Arif Mardin won the 2003 Grammy Award for Producer Of The Year (Non-Classical).
This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
A direct descendant from the pedigree of one of the 20th century's virtuosos, Norah Jones might not be on such a lofty artistic level as her dad Ravi Shankar, but certainly inherited some musical intuition from him. With nary a sitar nor raga within earshot, the young newcomer sounds very much an assimilated, western, 21st century pop-jazz singer. One thing that separates her from the pack is Ms. Jones' own piano stylings--not flashy, but deftly doubling or ...
| | Anthony Hamilton Comin' From Where I'm From CD (2003)
Javier CD music
$9.59 COMIN' FROM WHERE I'M FROM was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album. "Comin' From Where I'm From" was nominated for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance and for Best R&B Song.
Anthony Hamilton grew up in North Carolina, caught the eye of record companies, and released a major-label record in 1997, XTC, which was critically lauded, but mostly forgotten and quickly out-of-print. Following this setback, Hamilton hung around the music biz, working on his songwriting and background vocals, until his big break came in 2002, singing the hook for the Nappy Roots hit "Po' Folks."
The music on his second album, COMIN' FROM WHERE I'M FROM, transcends his rise-to-fame backstory. Hamilton is a soul singer in the truest sense of the phrase, a crooner with heart from the school of Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, ...
| | JS Ice Cream CD (2003)
Javier music CDs
$8.65 Principally recorded at Rock Land, Chicago, Illinois; Conjunction, Los Angeles, California and Tracken Place, Hollywood, California.
JS stands for the Johnson Sisters, Kim and Kandy, two young and harmonious R&B vocalists learned in the art of couching subtly (and often not-so-subtly) suggestive bits of innuendo in the sweetest, lightest, most innocent beats. Though young, the two sisters have been singing together since childhood and have a bit of a history in the music biz, doing session work for many artists, including Christina Aguilera before being discovered by soul legend Ronald Isley.
Considering the subject and ...
| | Latif Love In The First CD (2003)
Javier songs
$10.79 Latif possesses a richly soulful manner which belies his 20 years on this earth, and his Motown debut, LOVE IN THE FIRST, channels many of the icons of the famed label (most pointedly Stevie Wonder), filtering them through 21st-century production. Latif trained with one of the kings of the game, Teddy Pendergrass, and while furnished ...

| | John Legend Get Lifted CD (2004)
Javier CD music
$9.59 Six years after cutting his musical teeth as a teen, tickling the ivories on the classic Lauryn Hill single "Everything Is Everything," John Stephens popped up everywhere in 2004, going by the bold name of John Legend. His ubiquity was unsurprising, since he was taken under the wing of Kanye West, the year's breakout success, who tabbed Legend "the future of hip-hop." It's an interesting label for a man whose elegant voice and schooled songwriting conjures up Bill Withers and Al Green, but sometimes the future intersects with the past in a manner transcending revival.
Legend drops his debut, GET LIFTED, into the center of the neo-soul universe, and it's a charming, earnest record. Sometimes he dives into a contemporary slow jam, as on "Let's Get Lifted;" other ...
