(1 Customer Review)
C-BO's album debut is a harder-than-thou trip through gangsta funk, heavy on the syrupy grooves and blaxploitation samples. The title track, "Murder Man," and "America's Nightmare" reveal few subtleties, and even what could possibly be a laidback track ("Groovin' on a Sunday") has the same old played-out street nightmares. C-BO is a deft rapper though, indebted to Ice Cube and undeniably West Coast in his flow and sneer. A bare half-hour (and only six tracks) long, The Autopsy does what it does well, but never really reaches out for anything more than straight g-funk. ~ Keith Farley

The Source (4/94, p.80) - 3 Stars - Good - "...he sounds very much like Cube did back in 1990--an element that has been absent from hip-hop and missed by millions of fans for about four years now...." The Source (12/94, p.86) - 3.5 Stars - Dope - "...exceeds the work heard on his debut...The beats are hard enough to handle C-Bo's [Ice] Cube-like flow. The bass resounds, the drums pound..." Autopsy album
$13.15 Enter the Jacka. The death of 2Pac in the mid 90's ripped the heart out of West Coast Hip Hop. At the same time a young street poet named the Jacka was honing his skills in the Bay Area Rap game. Always open minded, he was influenced by b-boys and thugs, pimps and Imams. The Jacka has since developed into an established, well-rounded, well-versed emcee in the right place to bring the West Coast some serious attention. The Jacka's music is a reflection of his life. He witnessed the birth of the dope game and the drug war that followed, as the battle was waged in his community, on his block, and in his house. Memories of departed loved ones haunt his mind and soul. His release is to share his experiences through his music. Reality hurts. Rap is the Jacka's medicine. That and some purple. Jacka's ...

Autopsy music CDs
$11.99 Recording this album at the age of 21 from his home in Portland, OR, Jordan Hudson, aka the Operacycle, proved that he has plenty to prove. For his first full-length, Hudson and some cohorts constructed 13 songs that are all over the musical map and were recorded using an array of almost 30 different "instruments" ranging from drums and guitars to household appliances. Standout tracks including "This Is Part..." and the fittingly haunting "Funerals" are propelled by thumping beats, and some bizarre but oddly well-fitting samples. Even the Euphone-esque "SHS" has a ...
| | Kandia Kouyate Biriko CD (2002)
Autopsy songs
$15.89 Few voices can truly command attention, but Kandia Kouyate is one of them. A Malian national treasure and quite possibly that country's greatest female singer, she's what her countrymen call a ngara, a person with almost supernatural powers. And from her singing, it's quite feasible that she possesses them; she not only exudes charisma, even on CD, but there's also a sense that she's barely using the extent of her gifts. This collection of her songs based in the Bambara tradition is acoustic, a perfect setting for her. In addition to standard instruments like djembe, the marimba-like balofon, guitar, and ngoni, flute features occasionally, as do Indian violin and saxophone (which sounds out of place, really). But this is a disc that plays one of its strongest cards at the opening of the first track, as guest guitarist Djelimady Tounkara, from the Super ...
