British ambient/chill-out musician and producer Chicane's third album, 2000's BEHIND THE SUN features "Saltwater," a reworking of the Clannad hit "Harry's Game" that features Clannad's Maire Brennan on lead vocals.
Nick Bracegirdle, who records under the name Chicane, has a strong pop sense to go with his taste for ambient and trance dance tracks. For one thing, he always employs simple but catchy melodies over his repetitious beats, and for another he cleverly hooks up with some established names looking to extend their appeal into the dance field. "Saltwater," heard here in two different mixes, is a dance treatment of the old Clannad hit "Theme from Harry's Game" (best known in the U.S. for its appearance in a car commercial), complete with Clannad lead singer Maire Brennan. And "Don't Give Up," also heard in two different versions, one of which is a hidden track at the end of the disc, features vocals by Bryan Adams, not that you're likely to recognize him the first time through. When he isn't heating up the dance floor with unlikely guests, Bracegirdle constructs spacy ambient tracks that cool things down, the first of which, "Overture," sounds like something left off a Pink Floyd album from the 1970s. Despite international success, the American popularity of this album is likely to be limited to clubs. Not that Americans don't like European dance novelties, but they tend to like them to be more obvious, like Eiffel 65. ~ William Ruhlmann

Behind The Sun songs
$9.29 Any CD whose booklet includes a lengthy quote from Plato's SYMPOSIUM (huh?) can probably be accused with some justification of at least flirting with pretension. That said, Simply Red's last album of the millennium is more or less of a piece with its previous work--a modern take on '70s R&B and disco soul, heavily influenced by Gamble and Huff's songwriting and production style and (vocally) by Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke (Mick Hucknall's keening tenor ...

Released in September 1980, GUILTY was Barbra Streisand's best-selling album to date, moving in excess of 20 million units. It is Streisand's THRILLER and arguably her best recorded work. This is largely due to producer Barry Gibb, who developed the songs especially for Barbra, ...

Behind The Sun MP3 Album
$18.55 "Imaginary People" is about 'people absent': themes of loneliness, isolation, imagination and past history are all presented in the album's 12 tracks. The music is lush and organic, often sweet and even energetic, ranging from full rock and ballad arrangements to music stripped down to a lonely guitar. The album took David eight years to complete, coming from the recording sessions that also created Thrasody.About David Peachey:Hailing from subtropical Brisbane on Australia's eastern coast, singer-songwriter David Peachey evokes lush and organic folk-rock sounds, telling poignant and thoughtful tales of the heart's struggle.Fiercely independent, self-taught and versatile, David writes, composes and arranges all his own music, and plays most of the instruments heard on his CDs. Described as similar to Nick Drake, Yes, REM, Coldplay ...
