While boy bands are hallmarks of the pop world, it's easy to forget that their music echoes the soul music of the past decades, a connection that 98 Degrees member Nick Lachey alludes to in the coy pun title of his solo debut, SOULO. 98 Degrees followed the Backstreet Boys and N Sync in the Orlando boy-band outbreak of the late-1990s, but they still garnered their share of hits. Lachey, who gained notoriety in 2003 for his appearance on the reality show NEWLYWEDS with wife Jessica Simpson, is the first of the 98 boys to emerge with a solo outing. Befitting Lachey's past and his album's title, the music on SOULO is exactly the sort of smoothed-out, poppy R&B one would expect.
SOULO opens with a blast of horns and a touch of electronica, before launching into George Michael-esque blue-eyed disco-soul on the affable "Shut Up." On the other end of the spectrum lies "This I Swear," a countrified mournful ballad. Somewhere in the middle, there are tracks like the languorously funky "Could You Love." SOULO provides a heady mix of the tearful and the pulse-driven, a balance that should appeal to both his longtime fans and ones brought in by his TV role as the foil to his wife's wacky antics.

Boy Band Man Makes Good Very handsome man with an extremely handsome voice. Good pop songs (Shut Up and Carry On)and excellant ballads (You're The Only One shows his vocals off brilliantly)show he's not just a pretty face. He has writing input in nearly every song and this bodes well if he is allowed to develop. I hope he comes to the UK: I'm sure he'll do very well given the right promotion. Good midwestern Values Nick Lachey is a great guy. His music is refreshing, unlike the trashy music we hear today. Such profane music has no place in my household. My three young son's put in Nick'd CD and dance the day away. Nick, like myself has held on to his midwestern values and up bringing. (I grew up in St.Louis, Nick is from Cincinnati). His CD should easily be up for many awards. I give Soulo the highest ratings. He is truly a God send. Keep up the good work, Nick. Submitted by ehgav (Richmond, Va) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Finally.....A Refreshment! This album was highly refreshing when compared to most of the disgusting songs that are out now. My friends and I enjoy this album and we turn it up everytime we are on the phone with each other. Submitted by Kandra Ghotchburg (Oklahoma City, OB, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not Bad At All! I really liked this CD. I found most of the songs to be pretty good. I think Nick really knows how to deliver great ballads, and there are a few good ones on this CD. Nick has a great voice and for his first solo CD, I think he did pretty well! Submitted by a reviewer (Baltimore, Maryland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$13.59 In its recorded incarnation, the project known as Puracane is a collaborative effort between composer/programmer David Biegel and singer/lyricist Ali Rogers. | | Helms Swimmer CD (2000)
Soulo CD music
$12.55 You may think Helms is deathly serious when you first hear this album, but upon closer listen, you notice the lyrics are a bit humorous. Vocalist/guitarist Sean McCarthy has a bit of a Brian McMahon/Thurston Moore feel to his voice as he speak/sings about G.I. Joe ("We Must Get There Before Dark, Follow Me"), Pac-Man ("Ghosts with Searching Eyes"), and Three's Company ("The Television Set"). The music itself is full of contemplation and incredibly tight musicianship. "The Kindness of Automatic Doors" slides along at the pace of a snake on a hot desert floor, while "Teenagers in the Woods" builds ever so slightly until it falls into a quiet crevasse. "Ghosts with the Searching Eyes" demonstrates "Sean McCarthy"'s amazing and unorthodox guitar abilities as he plays a riff with his left hand while using his right hand to twiddle the pickup switch of his guitar, giving the music a sparkling effect. Sean's brother Dan manages to keep up with the textured rock & roll by laying down brutally complex shifts in time signature on his drums ("The Television Set"). As for bassist Tina Helms, she is the anchor of the group, never leading the band astray by implementing her solid basslines in order to allow for any sudden free-form outburst from the guitar or drums. Rumbling chords sprawl across this album like thunder in the summer sky, while the drums ...

Soulo music CDs
$9.85 "The lyrics stand alone as pure poetry..."Dirty Linen MagazineFOOLHARDYJaime Michaels may seem like the typical singer-songwriter, but with years of tours and performances across the country (and overseas) and five albums to his name, there is nothing usual about him. His new album, Fool, collects 14 sculpted stories that capture snapshots of places and remarkable moments from his life and cleverly disguise them as folk songs. Songs like “Always Never” mingle vaudevillian clinks and clanks with mandolin trills and organs that gently swoon. “Lavender Moon,” on the other hand, resembles a subtle bluegrass waltz with beautifully sung harmonies courtesy of singer-songwriter Suzanna Choffel. In fact, the album is peppered with guest appearances by local musicians like Jono Manson, who also produced the album, Chris Ishee on piano and Susan Hyde Holmes on upright bass. Michaels has much to celebrate with the release of Fool. The album is yet another notch on an ever-evolving career.Gabe Gomez - the ReporterBIOGRAPHYJaime sings. He always has. Always wanted to. Except maybe when he was in the fourth grade and Sister Mary Eymard used to traipse him and his two brothers around St. Mary's and force them to harmonize to Maguire Sisters tunes. Fortunately not too long after that he discovered what was going on up the road from the old Rhode Island homestead. And from the first act he ever saw at the Newport Folk Festival, a very young Tom Paxton, he knew what he wanted to do. That. And damned if that's not what he wound up doing. Well, more like this and that . . . a few years of sincere sixties singer songwriting in Cambridge trying to steal some of Tom Rush's tunings and Bonnie Raitt's rasp, opening shows for Dave van Ronk, Patrick Sky, Doc Watson, John Hammond and Jesse Colin Young . . . a couple of more solo years worshipping at the alter the Saints Tim, Buckley and Hardin . . . a fondly remembered stint as bass player/guitarist for the acoustic trio Beckett, touring and opening shows for Livingston Taylor, Jonathan Edwards and Earl Scruggs. Following time spent in Vermont teamed with guitarist Ron Renninger and saxophonist Leon Future in the band Favorite Cousins, Jaime left New England in 1980 for the shores of South Carolina. What followed was at least ...
