One Way System first lit up the second wave punk revolution with their fresh faced, no nonsense sound in the early eighties, when Oi! and skinhead culture had all but rejected the original punk ethic. One Way System managed to bridge the gap. From the front cover of Sounds to the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, the System remained sharp and impressive, their natural aggression and un-faulting professionalism sealing their reputation as one of the most exciting bands on the international punk circuit. This collection features all of the bands singles from their first incarnation, along with selected bsidesand stunning live versions. One Way System Singles Collection Songs Singles Collection Review

| | Devastations Coal CD (2006)
Singles Collection music CDs
$10.59 Australian trio the Devastations debut with Coal, an album steeped in the outback-gothic vibe perfected by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. A similar set of influences is at play in the Devastations sound: the Gun Club, Bryan Ferry, Lee Hazelwood. (On a more recent tip, American Music Club and Elliott Smith are also worth mentioning, especially in lead singer Conrad Standish's strained croon; "The Night I Couldn't Stop Crying" is a particularly Mark Eitzel-like performance.) Although plainly derivative of their shared influences, the Devastations do make each song their own, through unexpected touches like the playful rhythm box samba beat that animates the opening "Sex and Mayhem" and the Western twang-guitar shuffle of "Take You Home." That said, an entire album's worth of little other than low-register vocals, minor-key tunes and self-consciously minimalist arrangements does get a bit draggy by the final third. ~ Stewart Mason

| | Ronnie Pfeil Anytime You Want CD (2007)
Singles Collection album
$12.09 Even after a noteworthy career as a steel guitar player sharing the stage with many recognizable names (Darrell McCall, Moe Bandy, Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, Charly McClain, Jean Shepard, Frenchie Burke, Billy Mata, Hank Williams Jr., and Robert Bartosh) and working years in the studio on the production side of the business, Texas born and bred Ronnie Pfeil considers his album “Anytime You Want” the highlight of his career and a dream come true.“I am finally getting to do what I have always wanted to do - SING! I played behind so many great musicians but yet I always wanted to record an album of my own. I just knew that I had a style and a song that had to be shared.”Aside from his career as a pedal steel player, it was singing for local community functions that fueled Ronnie’s musical passion and the end result is his brand new debut release. Produced by the Grammy award winning Bobby Flores, the album features the variable talents of many South Texas musical mainstays: Jim Loessberg (drums), Jake Hooker (upright bass), Randy Reinhard (piano, steel guitar) and Leighan Cortes (background vocals). Bobby Flores also adds fiddle and background vocals contributions to the project.“Anytime You Want” is a solid mix of original tunes steeped in traditional Texas country roots as well as a balance of time-tested and treasured classics, a project that not only celebrates Pfeil’s country roots, but passes the tradition on with style. After months of listening to demo tapes, Pfeil settled on a stellar and potent combination of twelve original and classic country songs that celebrate the vibrant era of music that he himself loves so much.“I wanted this album to be a reflection of me. I love this music and these songs, but I also had the opportunity to record some fantastic new material. The title track, "Anytime You Want", written by Cary Clark "is a great song about a guy who just can't cut her loose and she comes back time and time again. He tries to so hard to be a man,” he says with a grin...!The steel-steeped treasure of "End of a Long Goodbye" is one particular original song that he was pleased to have included on the album. “That was a song handed to me on a silver platter by Bubba Bartosh. The song was written by two of Nashville’s great song writers - Gary Nicholson and Russell Smith.” He ...
