| | TRS-80 Shake Hands With Danger CD TRS-80 Discography of CDs
Chicago-based threesome TRS-80 get their kicks out of being a live electronic band named after a lo-tech, Radio Shack computer. The suspiciously electro-seeming early-'80s visual sheen of the band should not deter listeners though, as Shake Hands With Danger gets its digi-funk post-hip-hop ghetto-tech groove on without a wink. It's DJ Shadow meets the Neptunes sans brassy hooks, a retro-future re-envisioning of big beat. Analog synths produce seriously deep lines and add Stevie Wonder-like interludes for tracks like "Hand Over Fist," while wonderful arpeggios sprinkle organ fantasy breakbeats on "Phantom Power." The live drumming is especially noted on tracks like "I Am Energy," where polyrhythm combines with ambient samples (taken from early tracks) and old TV dialogue to produce a bubbling but strangely down-tempo electronic music for a postclub world. On "Get Inside," the drumming and warm synth swells are not unlike the often sampled David Axelrod. Unlike the oft-compared Boards of Canada, TRS-80 don't seem compelled by nostalgia so much as using the past for textural source material. A wonderfully sprawling yet cohesive album, Shake Hands puts TRS-80 light years apart from their kitsch or analog-purist contemporaries. ~ Daphne Carr Shake Hands With Danger Music TRS-80 Shake Hands With Danger Songs Shake Hands With Danger Review

Shake Hands With Danger album
$9.55 Susan Boyle's grand unveiling on Britain's Got Talent was with a song from Les Miserables - the very song that lends this album its title -- and if she could become an international sensation based on a show tune standard, there's no reason for her to change her approach on her debut, since that's the sound that made her a star. Plus, a large part of Boyle's appeal is that she's a middle-aged woman recalling a bygone era when there were singers that appealed to an adult audience by offering soft, stately versions of pop hits and standards. That time was the late ...
| | Jimmy Buffett Buffet Hotel CD (2009)
Shake Hands With Danger CD music
$9.74 Since Jimmy Buffett never leaves his comfort zone, it's hard to call 2009's Buffet Hotel a return to roots but, in a way, it is. Discounting the mock rap on "Turn Up the Heat and Chill the Rosé," this album doesn't even have the lingering country and reggae flavors that seasoned 2006's Take the Weather with You, with all of the songs riding a cool, mellow country-rock wave, ...

| | Lady Gaga Fame Monster CD (2009)
Shake Hands With Danger songs
$8.79 Initially planned solely as a standard double-disc reissue in the wake of the blockbuster success of The Fame, Lady Gaga decided to release the new material as a separate EP called The Fame Monster in addition to the standard two-CD set, where it's tacked onto a now standardized version of her debut. It's a nice move for fans, plus it helps emphasize the new material, which does act ...

Shake Hands With Danger CD music
$11.17 Bon Jovi's 2007 effort, LOST HIGHWAY, found New Jersey's finest brandishing a Nashville-tinged, commercial rock/country crossover sound that wasn't too far a stretch from their usual arena rocking anthems for the Everyman. And where that album sometimes tried too hard to fit into the ...

Shake Hands With Danger album
$14.15 If rock fans are likely to know the name Jeff Simmons, it's because of his work as bassist in the Mothers of Invention; if they know anything about his obscure solo career, the only album they're likely to know is Lucille Has Messed My Mind Up, issued in the early 1970s. But he did a yet more obscure album for Frank Zappa's Straight label, the soundtrack for the equally obscure biker movie Naked Angels, around the same time. As the liner notes to the CD reissue on Fallout laconically observe, it "was never intended to be a masterpiece." Yet by the shaky standards of biker soundtrack/psychedelic exploitation LPs, it's not bad at all; it's definitely one of the better ones, in fact, in this admittedly limited genre. While it's sometimes been described as ...
