The collection INTRODUCING brings together 17 favorites from Captain Beefheart including "Safe As Milk" and "Hot Head."
Introducing Captain Beefheart is an oddly named compilation assembling highlights off of Strictly Personal -- which goes back to 1968, on Liberty Records in England -- and Unconditionally Guaranteed, Bluejeans & Moonbeams, Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller), Doc at the Radar Station, and Ice Cream for Crow, dating between 1974 and 1982 for the Virgin label. Essentially, that odd spread of music is the Captain Beefheart material that EMI U.K. owns. The stylistic jumps are considerable, though there's an edgy consistency to the material that allows the collection to hold together despite its leaps back and forth across 14 years of development, with gaps where the artist's chaotic contractual relationships with Buddah and Warner Bros. come into play. The Strictly Personal sides "Safe as Milk" and "Gimme Dot Harp Boy" fit together amazingly well with the rest despite their much earlier recording dates and their rawness -- they're a good jumping-off point for material that ranges from the stream-of-consciousness blues of "Making Love to a Vampire With a Monkey on My Knee" to the softer, more commercial sensibilities of "This Is the Day." The Virgin material sounds superb, and the earlier Liberty stuff slightly less so. ~ Bruce Eder

Introducing songs
$12.79 Exploding into the stale vacuum of music in 1976 were four lads from the working-class burg known as Queens, New York: The Ramones! Projecting non-image as image, the Ramones invented worlds with every new song, populating their fantasies with characters like Sheena The Punk Rocker and Suzy The Headbanger. They were successful simply because they knew how to write great rock & roll--all energy, swagger and bravado; no solos, no chops, and no classical themes sprucing up concept albums.
Though Joey Ramone's lyrical concerns often focus on horror movies, there's a song for every occasion, whether you want to sniff some glue, score some horse on ...
| | Cry Baby CD (1990) Original Soundtrack
Introducing album
$6.49 John Waters' Cry-Baby goes hand in hand with Hairspray, and is a musical film that will probably appeal more to Waters' fans than fans of musical cinema. There is nothing original or exciting about the music on the soundtrack, as energetic as it is, and its bizarre nature is probably due to the scenes from the film rather than its own oddities. Waters describes it as "music that proved kids knew how to be bad before sex, drugs, and rock & roll," yet there seems to be little separation between those attributes and the concoction of lust and loudness here. Songs like "Doin' Time for Bein' Young" and "High School Hellcats" are no ...

$17.95 Having lost its second major-label recording contract following the release of its ninth studio album, Future Games: A Magical-Kahauna Dream, in 1977, Spirit toured Europe in the winter of 1978, resulting in the release of the group's first live album, which appeared in three different configurations in three different territories. The basic source of the album was the band's March 11, 1978, show at the Rainbow in London. The British version, on Illegal Records, was called Live Spirit, which was also the title of the U.S. album on Spirit's own Potato Records label, but the West German release was called Made ...

Introducing songs
$20.49 ABOUT USThe story of The Yohawks dates back to the days of the “British Invasion”, just before the Summer of Love, and long before commercial radio became formatted for specific music genres and listener demographics. “Back in the day” in Ottawa, Canada, bands would book four hours of studio time in Montreal (Ottawa didn’t have a professional studio then) and record an A side and a couple of B sides, send the master off to the Smiths Falls RCA pressing plant, and hear themselves on CFRA, CKOY, or CJET two weeks later.THE PLAYERSIn the late sixties, as part of the Five D, an Ottawa band which enjoyed success throughout eastern Ontario, Dave Poulin, Brian Bradfield, Brad Campbell and Keith Richardson formed a lasting friendship that, forty-two years later, has resulted in their first album of fresh, original songs. While each member went on to other musical endeavors after the Five D, it’s only now that time and technology has allowed the group to explore their collective creativity without any constraints.THE ...
