This Is Rockabilly Clash
$15.09 Carefully packaged and groomed for success, The Runaways built an image for themselves out of their consciously trashy costumes, frank lyrics, and straightforward, hard-rocking sound. Closely managed by the industry-savvy Kim Fowley, they were also accused of being a gimmick, and the fact that a few of them were still learning how to play their instruments didn't do much to dissuade this notion. The fact remains, however, ...

This Is Rockabilly Clash
$11.18 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." Mayer ...

This Is Rockabilly Clash
$6.29 For various legal reasons, no Ambrosia recordings were released on compact disc in America until 1997's Anthology, and while it's an imperfect collection, it does offer a reasonably thorough overview of the group's career. It only briefly touches on their early art rock records, choosing to concentrate instead on their early-'80s soft rock hits like "Biggest Part of Me," "You're the Only Woman," and "How Much I Feel." As a result, dedicated prog rock fans will find this collection inadequate, but for most casual listeners, it will contain everything they need and then some, since the disc is padded with three new songs that are pleasant. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Saga Behaviour CD (1985)
This Is Rockabilly Clash
$10.29 When Saga started out in the late '70s, their culmination of keyboards and guitar presented them with a sound that was nothing short of progressive. As the '80s approached, they began to slim down their long instrumental rock suites and play shorter songs with more lyrics, eventually taking on a sound that veered more toward a commercial ...
