The 2003 edition of LIVE AT WEMBLEY contains bonus tracks. Queen: Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon, Roger Taylor. Additional personnel: Spike Edney (guitar, keyboards, background vocals). Recorded live at Wembley Stadium, London, England and Nepstadion, Budapest, Hungary in 1986. Personnel: Spike Edney (keyboards). Audio Mixer: Brian Malouf. Audio Remasterer: Kevin Metcalfe. Recording information: Nepstadion, Budapest, Hungary (1986); Wembley Stadium (1986). Illustrator: Roger Chiasson. Photographers: Neal Preston; Torleif Svensson; Denis O'Regan. Arranger: Brian May. Although it was taped in 1986, the home video Live at Wembley '86 was not released in the U.K. until 1990, and not in the U.S. until '92. Containing almost the exact same track listing as Live in Budapest (also recorded on the '86 A Kind of Magic tour) and released as a CD under the same name, Live at Wembley captures Queen at a homecoming stop on their final tour. While the huge football stadium served as the concert grounds for some of Queen's most important performances (1985's Live Aid and 1992's posthumous, star-studded tribute to Freddie Mercury), this '86 set was the band's only true full-length concert at the venue. The bombastic rock of "One Vision" starts the show off in fine fashion, and is soon followed by many Queen classics -- "In the Lap of the Gods," "A Kind of Magic," "Under Pressure," "Radio Ga Ga," "Bohemian Rhapsody," and more. Also included is a fun cover of the '50s standard "Tutti Frutti," while the only track on Wembley that isn't included on Budapest turns out to be their 1980 dance hit "Another One Bites the Dust." Live at Wembley is an excellent live document of latter-day era Queen. ~ Greg Prato The posthumously released two-disc Live at Wembley '86 proves once and for all that Queen was a superior live band, and like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and others, had far too many hits to fit into a two-hour show. Recorded in the band's native England at the gigantic Wembley Stadium on the A Kind of Magic tour, the group was at their peak of popularity back home. This would unfortunately turn out to be the band's last tour, and it showed the group including old rock & roll covers, classics, then-current songs, improv, and overlooked album tracks. Queen opens up the show with the near-heavy-metal roar of "One Vision," and adds lively renditions of the well-known "Tie Your Mother Down," the David Bowie collaboration "Under Pressure," and the band's very first hit, "Seven Seas of Rhye." Also included on disc one is the early, forgotten show-closer "In the Lap of the Gods," the beautiful (and sadly prophetic) ballad "Who Wants to Live Forever," and a downright funky version of "Another One Bites the Dust." Disc two opens with a pair of acoustic numbers, including the perennial crowd fave "Love of My Life," but soon switches gears to some good old rock & roll covers. Spirited and fun versions of "You're So Square (Baby I Don't Care)" and "Tutti Frutti" expose Queen's roots, while the band's own "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" fits in perfectly with all the '50s hoopla. Casual fans will recognize "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Radio Ga Ga," and "We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions." Although most Queen fans prefer the unfairly criticized 1979 concert album Live Killers, Live at Wembley '86 does a good job of balancing the well-known for the uninitiated and the lesser-known for the hard-core fan. (Note: Live at Wembley '86 should not to be confused with the double album/single-disc Live Magic, which was released in 1986 in England and 1996 in the U.S.) [The 2003 edition of Live at Wembley '86 adds four songs -- "A Kind of Magic," "Another One Bites the Dust," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," and "Tavaski Szel Vizet Araszt" -- culled from other shows on the A Kind of Magic tour.] ~ Greg Prato The posthumously released, two-disc Live at Wembley proves once and for all that Queen was a superio Live At Wembley Stadium Music Queen Live At Wembley Stadium Songs Live At Wembley Stadium Music Live At Wembley Stadium Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Sheer Brilliance I have the DVD for Queen on Fire, and this is much better. The Live versions of "A Kind of Magic" and "One Vision" are far better then on the studio album. My only dislike is the three bonus songs, which in my opinion are unnessescary, sounding quite similar. Inside the two disc set includes songs from Queen II and A Kind of Magic and everything in between (except for Jazz), and 5 cover songs with Tutti Frutti sounding in my opinion better then the original. It even sounds at the end of One Vision like they're playing Liar, but it instantly shapes into Tie Your Mother Down. One of the highlites is the 9 minute guitar solo by Brian, proceeded by Impromptu, which is an instrumental piece you can only expect from queen. In short, Buy It. Words can't express how great this album is. Queen's best live album! Much better than "Live Killers", in that the sound quality on that album sucked. Great line-up of songs. The members of Queen were in fine form when they played, that night! Submitted by some guy (Wallingford, CT.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Better than five stars! Ladies and gentlemen, do yourselves a favor; buy this album. Has these fabulous live versions of MOST of their best songs. There is not a single song on this album I can think of, that isn't just fantastic. It being a recording of Queen's last concert ever (with Mercury) makes it all the more worth buying. Live At Wembley Stadium
$8.99 Personnel: Carly Simon (background vocals); Peter Calo (guitar, dobro); Jan Hyer (cello); Teese Gohl (strings, flute, piano, keyboards, bass synthesizer, kalimba); Jimmy Parr (background vocals). Although ostensibly an album of standards for children, Carly Simon's INTO WHITE is designed to be at least as inviting for adult listeners. Featuring musical direction from Simon's son Ben Taylor, who co-wrote the tune "I'll Just Remember You" and sings harmony vocals with his sister Sally Taylor (their dad James Taylor is represented by a warm version of his lullaby "You Can Close Your Eyes"), INTO WHITE touches on folk, jazz, and country alongside Simon's standard soft rock. There's even a bossa nova tune, Antonio Carlos Jobim's classic "Manha de Carnaval." Along with these, the Cat Stevens-penned title track, Paul McCartney's "Blackbird," and other pop hits are transformed into quiet, delicate re-arrangements that focus on Simon's fine vocals. Listening to Into White, it's difficult to find a place where it begins and ends. Unlike 2005's Moonlight Serenade, or her many other standards records, this is a set that doesn't feel like one. For starters, Carly Simon has come full circle. There is no symphony orchestra here, none of the schmaltz and syrup that have plagued almost every one of her recordings since 1997's Film Noir (2000's Bedroom Tapes was an exception). This does not mean that the album is void ...
