With billing divided equally between three midlevel headliners, Triple Trouble simmers without ever quite catching fire. Despite backing from the former Stevie Ray Vaughan rhythm section and a clever gospel rearrangement of the Beatles classic "Help," performances tend to drag. No one seems to work up much of a sweat, and guitar solos add up to strings of ancient clichés, absent the intensity they once conveyed. Perhaps if Reese Wynans' organ had been mixed higher, some churchy element might have pepped things up; as it is, bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Chris Layton come through loud, clear, and listless. A feeling persists throughout this album that if this group had delivered this set before a rowdy crowd in some beery backwoods dive, results would have been far more persuasive. As it is, Triple Trouble is hardly trouble at all. ~ Robert L. Doerschuk

Triple Trouble
$13.85 Personnel includes: Jimmy Thackery (guitar); Duke Robillard (guitar). Personnel: Jimmy Thackery (guitar); Duke Robillard (guitar); James Carpenter (saxophone); Ken Faltinson (keyboards); Mark Stutso (drums). Recording information: Sully's, Dearborn, MI (11/12/1994). Electric blues fans flock to Jimmy Thackery to hear his fiery guitar, and tolerate his serviceable but far from thrilling gruff vocals. So, the compilers of this Blind Pig-era (six albums from 1992-2000) collection wisely stuck with all instrumental cuts. While that doesn't adequately summarize his ...
| | Tommy Castro Gratitude CD (2003)
Triple Trouble
$9.35 From the moment Tommy Castro and his band began playing their distinctive blend of blues, soul, and rock, in and around the San Francisco Bay Area in 1991, fans and critics alike have been enthralled both by his exceptional song writing ability and his passionate performances. One of America's leading blues publications, Blues Review, said, "Castro's energy and charisma leap right out ..." Musician Magazine said of the San Jose, California native, "Castro could be a star", and Playboy gushed, "Worshipped for his guitar virtuosity, Castro throws a bit more rock and two bits of soul into his basic blues mix... He has the voice, the band and the guitar to pull it off." Hailed from the outset as one of the most electrifying and compelling live acts working today, (he's been an indispensable fixture on both the club and festival circuit in the US and abroad, touring with artists such as BB King, Robert ...

| | Joe Bonamassa Blues Deluxe CD (2003)
Triple Trouble
$13.89 Personnel: Joe Bonamassa (vocals, guitar); Jon Paris (harmonica); Benny harrison (Hammond B-3 organ); Eric Czar (electric bass); Kenny Kramme (drums). Recorded at Unique Studios, New York, New York. Includes liner notes by Harris Cohen. As the electric guitar ace Joe Bonamassa was so strongly inspired by blues and blues-oriented six-stringers (i.e., Clapton, Johnny Winter), many of his fans would politely pester him about doing a disc of blues standards. Originally done as a lark, the results of such a session were deemed ...
