House Of Low Culture Edward's Lament Songs Edward's Lament Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) HOLC does it again!!!!!! House of Low Culture, a side project featuring members of the sludgecore band Isis, hits a home run with it's second full scale release. Their 1st CD, "Submarine Immersion Techniques Vol. 1", captivated fans of dark, isolationist, ambient, and experimental music. Now they have followed up with a masterpiece in Edward's Lament. Long, haunting tracks filled with strange, almost other-worldly walls of abstract sounds and noise, weaved together with droning feedback, unidentifiable loops,
and at times, Sickly Sweet melodies.
This is ambient/experimental music at it's finest, So lock the doors, turn out the lights, crank the AC, and let HOLC take you on a sonic journey that will have fans of projects like Coil, Final, Biosphere, and Lull begging for more. | | Six Organs Of Admittance Compathia CD (2003)
Edward's Lament CD music
$11.85 With Compathia, Ben Chasny takes Six Organs of Admittance further in the direction of "songs" in the traditional sense (as opposed to extended, largely instrumental, raga-like jams). Assuredly, these aren't pop songs, but they are, most definitely, songs. With Dark Noontide, Six Organs' previous effort, Chasny's folky eastern melodies were balanced by his chant-like moan. But with Compathia, he sings on every track save one, the brief title track (which functions as a beautiful instrumental breather mid-album). His voice is also noticeably pushed forward in the mix, and the songs themselves are less cluttered by percussion and other instruments, further emphasizing Chasny's singing and lyrics. As a result, Compathia almost recasts Six Organs of Admittance as a recording outfit: more of a psychedelic singer/songwriter outing now than a (largely) instrumental ...
| | Neurosis & Jarboe CD (2003)
Edward's Lament music CDs
$13.09 Talk about an inspired pairing: Bay Area apocalyptic post-hardcore beasts Neurosis teamed up with ex-Swans vocalist/collaborator Jarboe, for this years-long, tape-trading project, and the result is, as expected, haunting, enlightening, and challenging. Jarboe's chameleonic myriad of vocal styles -- a pure, nectar-sweet tenor, operatic, dramatic, and melancholy, often gives way to whispered spoken word, and disturbing bouts of chanting, panting, and trachea-scraping screeches -- and harrowing poetry are a natural partner for Neurosis' increasingly subtle ventures into abstraction and texture (here, the band settles on a sonic cousin of its experimental ambient/noise alter ego, ...

| | Christina Aguilera Stripped CD (2002)
Edward's Lament songs
$11.99 Although STRIPPED is supposed to refer to Christina Aguilera's emotional rather than physical state, you couldn't tell based on her topless pose on the album cover, where the only nod to discretion is some strategically placed hair. Like Britney before her, Christina yearned to get away from her wholesome pop image. In the process, she hooked up with a wide range of collaborators including hip-hop producers Rockwilder and Scott Storch along with a myriad of guest musicians including Eve, Linda Perry, and Dave Navarro. Despite all the glitter and glam, there's no getting away from the fact that Aguilera's singing ability puts her head and shoulders above her poppy peers. Her rich, throaty style works well on slower numbers like a soaring Alicia Keys collaboration "Impossible," piano-driven nugget "Soar," and the Mariah-like "The Voice Within."
Other highlights include the snappy, Lil' Kim hip-hop workout "Can't Hold Us Down," sweeping self-empowering rant "Make Over," and the ribald, jeep-beat crazy joint "Dirrty" featuring Redman. Most revealing (on an emotional level) is "I'm OK," an acoustic guitar-heavy autobiographical remembrance of childhood abuse. Britney Spears may not be quite a woman or a girl, but the newly minted Christina is definitely closer to the former.
Extremely limited version of her 2002 album, packaged with a bonus make-up kit by Miki that contains five different kinds of lip-gloss & five kinds of eye-shadow. The make-up kit is packaged in a bonus jewel case. The album & make-up kit are housed in an exclusive slipcase. ...
| | Counting Crows Films About Ghosts: Best Of CD (2003) Bonus Track
Edward's Lament album
$10.45 When Counting Crows emerged in the early 1990s with a folk-rock sound that seemed to hearken back to Van Morrison and Bob Dylan, they represented for many a welcome alternative to the dour, sludgy grunge nation that ruled the rock roost. With Adam Duritz's poetic sad-sack lyrics, Charlie Gillingham's Garth Hudson-like keyboard work, and a bedrock of jangling guitars, the Crows turned out a passel of fine albums in their first decade, each of which is well represented on this collection.
The hits are obviously here; the self-referential breakout smash "Mr. Jones," the out-of-left-field soundtrack contribution "Big Yellow Taxi" (which found the band riding Joni's chestnut all the way to the singles charts), ...
