Recorded in 1978 & 1990. Includes liner notes by Chris White.
Calling New World (1993) a Zombies effort is as erroneous as portraying No Quarter: Jimmy Page & Robert Plant (2001) as a Led Zeppelin album, as in both cases, principal components are glaringly absent. On this disc, co-founders Rod Argent (vocals/keyboards) and Paul Atkinson (guitar/vocals) are listed not as part of the band, but rather "special guests." Present and accounted for from the initial combo are Chris White (bass/vocals), Colin Blunstone (vocals), and Hugh Grundy (drums). Although White and Blunstone attempt to pick up the slack in the wake of Argent's minimal involvement, their choice of Sebastian Santa Maria (keyboards/guitar/vocals) is a less than suitable substitute for the missing co-founder. Not surprisingly, while both White and Blunstone are excellent songwriters, much of the material lacks the quirky and jazzy influence that Argent infused into the Zombies' 'sound'. That said, the cuts on New World (1991) are not inferior -- either in composition or execution. They simply are not the Zombies. The opener and title track, "New World (My America)" is one of White's better cuts, with a strong backbeat and the typical tension and release that became trademarks of his vintage sound. "You Make Me Feel Good," "I Love You," and "Beechwood Park" -- White's marquee noir-edged pop style conjured up on "Lula Lula" similarly hearkens back to "Let Me Be," with understated and intimate vocals. An alternate version of the former is available as a bonus side, under what is presumably the working name "Hold My Hand." The Blunstone contributions are equally enjoyable, with the ballad "Losing You," and the mid-tempo rocker, "Love Conquers All" his strongest showings. Casual enthusiasts should note the remake of "Time of the Season," which is the only number to feature Argent. The update can barely be measured against the original, and pales in comparison. In 2003, New World debuted on CD with a pair of supplementary sides, the previously mentioned "Hold My Hand," as well as "When My Boat Comes In," another White-penned song. ~ Lindsay Planer

| | J J Jackson But It's Alright CD (1967)
New World songs
$9.95 Soul belter J.J. Jackson is best known for his 1967 smash, "But It's Alright," but he has some fine singles and a couple of excellent albums as well, and 1967's But It's Alright on the Calla label is one of them. Kicking off with the infectious title track, the record alternates between flat-out rockers like "I Dig Girls," "Come See Me (I'm Your Man)" (which was written by Jackson, covered by the Pretty Things, and then reclaimed powerfully here), and "Boogaloo Baby," midtempo groovers like "You've Got Me Dizzy" and "The Stones That I Throw," ...

New World CD music
$18.79 This CD contains B.B. King's first ABC-Paramount studio efforts -- Mr. Blues (1962) and Confessin' the Blues (1965), respectively. While there are inevitable similarities between the projects, offering them back-to-back allows listeners an acute sense of King's rapid maturation and development during what was by all accounts the nexus of the guitarist/vocalist's career. The dozen-song Mr. Blues was a haphazard start for King with the contents taken from three different recording ...

| | Null Device Million Different Moments CD (2004)
New World album
$16.45 After their successful debut, 'Sublimation,' Null Device returns with a mature collection of songs that explores various cultures, styles, and instrumentation. Weave Middle Eastern influences and guitar to their beloved and intelligent Synthpop sound and you will only scratch the surface of what you'll explore in these intricately created dance ballads. A must for fans of New Order, Depeche Mode, Natasha Atlas, Peter Gabriel, Conjure One, Delerium, Dead Can Dance and Talvin Singh.A Million Different Moments, the second disc from the acclaimed electronic duo Null Device, sets an even higher musical standard than its predecessor, 2002's critically-lauded Sublimation. Deftly fusing elements of classic synthpop with influences ranging from Middle Eastern instrumentation to classical, trip-hop, and drum n' bass, Null Device ventures confidently into unknown territories to produce great reward sonically, vocally, and lyrically.Fans of such acts as Delirium, Iris, Portishead, and GusGus will no doubt be entranced by Eric Oehler and Eric Goedken's infectious songs of longing and heartache. A Million Different Moments both elevates and expands the world of synthpop, leaving doubters of the genre's ability to expand in the dust and creating a landmark disc of incredible quality and depth. Whether heard in a dark smoky club or in a warm bedroom on a chilly morning, A Million Different Moments continues Null Device's breakneck evolution, retaining their distinctive sound while pushing it to bold and exciting new boundaries.-- DJ EUROTIC, The Inferno"While only a sophomore album, "A Million Different Moments" is more mature than some bands can hope for in a lifetime. Null Device run the gamut on this disc, with worldly styles that are diverse and yet intertwined by a sensitive cohesion that propels the ...
| | Ronan Keating 10 Years Of Hits CD (2004)
New World CD music
$12.79 This compilation explores a decade of hits and album tracks from UK singer Ronan Keating, including songs he recorded as part of boy band Boyzone. As a bonus, the collection includes Keating's solo reworking of three Boyzone hits.
10 Years of Hits boasts quite a title; at the time of its release, Ronan Keating had only been a solo artist for four years, and not one of his hits from the six previous years as lead singer for Boyzone is featured in its original form. The three Boyzone hits, re-recorded for this collection, were all previous hits for other artists -- "Baby Can I Hold You" by Tracy Chapman, "Words" by the Bee Gees, and "Father & Son" by Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens). If it is a misleading title, it is also a forgivable one, because 13 U.K. Top Ten hits are included in the collection, as well as duets with Yusuf Islam, LeAnn Rimes, and Lulu, and Bryan Adams's "The Way You Make Me Feel," on which he sings background vocals. It is a comprehensive collection of Keating's material up to 2004, and if one doesn't find anything of interest on it, one will probably not find much of interest on the individual albums, because he has a very set sense of style, and seldom strays from it. The other artists mentioned are an indication of that style, which reflect his love for country, ...
