Story Charles Dickens
Closed Captioned; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re; Sensor Matic

A musical re-telling of Charles Dickens' Christmas classic about the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, who's forced to face his unpleasant past, present and future via three ghosts. As a result, Scrooge undergoes a major transformation, and his Christmas spirit is restored. Songs include "The Beautiful Day," "Thank You Very Much," and "A Christmas Carol."

Albert Finney shines as the title character in this musical version of Charles Dickens' timeless tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, a lonely miser who is visited on Christmas Eve by three spirits who teach him lessons of love and giving. Fun choreography, rich set design, memorable songs, and a distinguished supporting cast (led by Sir Alec Guinness as Jacob Marley's ghost) lend considerable clout to this perennial favorite.

Filmed in Panavision and Technicolor. Copyright 1970 Cinema Center Films, Inc.

This is the only Richard Beaumont video. Stars also making their debut in this video: David Collings.

5 stars Classic!
This is one of the best musical adaptations ever. Unfortunately, it is often overlooked in favor of far inferior versions. Everyone should make watching this film a Christmas tradition in their family. It could even make you wish you were living back in Dickens' time! An all star cast and memorable songs make this DVD highly recommended.

5 stars My favorite Scrooge!
Of the many different Scrooge's out there, this one is my absolute favorite. Albert Finney's performance is nothing short of phenomenal. The soundtrack to this film is so fantastic I wish I had a CD of just the music so I could listen all season. You haven't experienced "The Christmas Carol" until you have seen this rendition of Scrooge.

5 stars #1 Christmas movie of all time!!!!!
My wife and I look forward to watching this movie each Christmas (and sometimes throughout the year). No one plays Scrooge better than Albert Finney. The music is entertaining and very catchy. I catch myself singing "Thank You Very Much" all the time. Everyone should see this movie over and over.

Highlighted by the perennial "Christmas in Dixie," Alabama Christmas is a collection of holiday tunes counting among one of Alabama's strongest records, seasonal or otherwise; although at times the material is overly sappy. There's no mistaking the group's affection for the project, and cuts like "Happy Holidays," "Tennessee Christmas," and "A Candle in the Window" are all fine additions to the contemporary country Yuletide canon. ~ Jason Ankeny Live Recording

Karen Wright (Audrey Hepburn) and Martha Dobie (Shirley MacLaine) are just beginning to succeed in their struggle to make the Wright-Dobie School for Girls a going concern. Karen believes she will soon be able to marry Joe Cardin (James Garner). However, Karen has to discipline Mary Tilford (Karen Balkin). Mary always wants her own way and, worse, is a congenital liar. Mary complains to her grandmother Mrs. Tilford (Fay Bainter). To lend strength to her complaint, Mary repeats part of a conversation that she overheard, but barely understood--a conversation in which Martha's aunt Lily (Miriam Hopkins) accused Martha of having an unnatural attachment to Karen. Mrs. Tilford is horrified and spreads the word to the parents of the other girls--with disastrous results. THE CHILDREN'S HOUR is William Wyler's second version of Lillian Hellman's controversial 1934 Broadway play. In Wyler's first version, THESE THREE, made in 1936, the lesbian theme was entirely suppressed. In contrast, THE CHILDREN'S HOUR, somewhat belatedly, allowed the theme out of Hollywood's closet. THE CHILDREN'S HOUR is clearly set in the 1960s but retains many of the 1930s attitudes toward lesbianism--the result is a movie that hovers curiously between the 1930s and the 1960s.
