Very Best Of The Reggae Superstars: Slow Run
$13.05 It's a minor problem, but if there's a complaint to be made about Tarrus Riley's 2009 effort CONTAGIOUS, it's that his previous effort, PARABLES, has a much better layout. The crowding together of redundant numbers and the uneven flow experienced here make CONTAGIOUS feel more like a collection of songs than a fully thought-out album, but they are great songs for the most part, performed in that dignified, warm, rasta manner that has made Riley a favorite of the new roots set. "Living the Life of a Gun" is a wonderfully smooth alternative to Anthony B. or Sizzla's social commentary, and when a children's choir enhances the ...

Very Best Of The Reggae Superstars: Slow Run
$7.15 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
"The Promise" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance and Best Rock Song.
This single-disc sampler was put together in deference to Springsteen fans unprepared to shell out the cash for the TRACKS box set. It features many of the key tracks from the box, illuminating the Boss's career beyond the official album cuts. From the infectious, good-humored "Part Man, Part Monkey" to the rock & roll anthem "Where the Bands Are" and the chilling acoustic version of "Born in the U.S.A," 18 TRACKS is Springsteen at his best. The prolific songwriter has always come up with way too much material for whatever album he was working on, and the cuts left over are never less than top-notch. Thus, 18 TRACKS (not to mention its parent box set) is no collection of cast-offs. Rather, it's an alternate, equally compelling history of the quintessential American rock & roller. As an added inducement, there are bonus tracks here that don't appear on the box, included the beloved "The Promise" and "The Fever."
Includes liner notes by Bruce Springsteen.

| | Sugar Minott Ghetto-Ology + Dub CD (1983)
Very Best Of The Reggae Superstars: Slow Run
$10.69 After a successful apprenticeship under Coxsone Dodd at Studio One, Lincoln "Sugar" Minott went out on his own and established two labels of his own: Black Roots and Youth Promotion. Ghetto-ology, originally released in 1979, was his first self-produced album, and it was hard to come by until it was reissued on CD by the American Easy Star label in early 2000. If there were some kind of Reggae Medal of Honor, Easy Star would deserve it for bringing this hidden treasure back to light. It includes such stellar performances as "Man Hungry," the eerie "So Many Things," and "The People Got to Know," all of them ...
