Prince - Live At The Aladdin Las Vegas Video Prince - Live At The Aladdin Las Vegas Movie Review Average Rating: (3.7 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Not ALL I expected from Prince.. I was a bit disappointed with the video and audio quality. After watching Beyonce, I was prepped to really kick it with Prince but it never happened! The overall performance of Prince and his band was obvious but the reproduction wasn't up to his standards. Submitted by Hennessy (Augusta, GA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Incredible as Always Being that I consider myself to be one of the biggest Prince fans around, this latest installment in the video archives was a welcome addition to my collection. I've personally seen Prince in concert 26 times and this particular "One Night Alone" tour was one of the best and probably least appreciated. Those not familiar with any of Prince's material outside of what is stuffed into the public ear by commercial radio will be in for a treat when they uncover a side of the Artist they've most likely never heard before. Those accustomed to the poppy past of the purple one might be disappointed that he doesn't perform many Top Ten selections in this release, but those who have followed him through the darkest hour and have grown musically along with him will be very pleased indeed. The DVD borrows selections from across his career, including primarily Rainbow Children (5 tracks), Sign O The Times, Parade, Purple Rain, Around The World In a Day and the Symbol album, various covers (including Pass The Peas, Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love, etc.) and a mish mash of rare and even unreleased material. The only downside to the DVD is the still and video excerpts in between songs which really damages the continuity of the concert footage. The guest musician performances from Eric Leeds, Maceo and Sheila E are extraordinary, but Nikka Costa left much to be desired and the disk could have easily done without. While she has a great traditional blues voice, her nervousness was evident which led you to feel comforted for her when the song was finished before the hole got any deeper. Outside of the aforementioned harsh criticisms, the disk is simply wonderful and a must have for any die hard Prince fans and a fantastic reintroduction for those who left well alone during the past rocky decade. I Like Prince but... Good performances, poorly shoot and recorded. Submitted by cobaltstream59 (Moreno Valley, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A master class in live performance As a touring musician myself I know only too well how much hard work and dedication goes into making a great live performance look easy. This DVD is a none stop demonstration of perfection in the art of love for musical performance from the teacher himself. His band is made up of the best of the best musicians. Renato Neto is probably the best keyboard player Prince has ever worked with. Sheila E. is a welcome return to the line-up on percussion. Rhonda Smith on bass is almost too funky and the man himself is absolutely electric. From start to finish this DVD, edited highlights from a 3 hour show, will have you stomping around the room and feeling that rush of cold down the spine that real music always sends you each and every time you watch it. My ONE criticism is that the video conversion contains a lot of MPEG artifacts and boxy break up, which might be distracting on large format, high definition TV screens and computer monitors, but the soundtrack is flawless and exceptionally well recorded. Turn it up! Submitted by windowsuser123 (Stockton) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Prince Comes Through Once Again! When I firstheard about this new DVD I was very excited, and when I got it, Live at Las Vegas lived up to my expectations. It was phenomenal!!! The show was great and his musicians are by far the best around. With people like Eric Leeds, and guest spots from Nikka Costa and Sheila E., you would think that it couldn't get much better, but then add Prince's legendary showmanship in the mix. It is by far one of the best music DVDs that I have ever seen. I would highly recommend this DVD to any true Prince fan, as well as to anyone who likes a great live show.
