Hud review Product Description
Martin Ritt's HUD is an adaptation of Larry McMurtry's novel HORSEMAN, PASS BY, successfully transformed into an entertaining and ambitious contemporary Western. Set on a Texas ranch where Cadillacs, cattle, and transistor radios coexist uneasily, the film stars Paul Newman as the hedonistic, arrogant, and rebellious farmhand Hud Bannon. ...See Full Description

||A piece of Americana...a must for any collection!!!!|
A must see for those who are looking to see what life in Texas quite possibly was like for 3 generations of male family members on a cattle ranch. One who had the highest of integrity and personal values, one who had none, and one youngster who had to decide which path to take. The family housekeeper was the glue who held them together, and was also a catalyst that eventually helped to blow them apart. Very advanced filming techniques for the early '60's, most of the film was also shot on sight. I'm sure this film was considered quite racy for it's time as well. Nominated for multiple academy awards, winner of three. Paul Newman should have won his one and only Oscar for this movie, he played an absolutely perfect "unprincipled man" as HUD.

||A TRUE TIMELESS CLASSIC|
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER MADE! THE WRITTING IS FAR AND AWAY AHEAD OF ITS TIME...DIRECTOR MARTIN RITT CRAFTED A FLAWLESS MASTERPIECE...AND, THE CAST IS BEYOND BELIEF---PAUL NEWMAN SHOULD HAVE WON THE OSCAR THAT HE WAS NOMINATED FOR! PATRICIA NEAL DID WIN HER WELL-DESERVED OSCAR,AND BRANDON de WILDE SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST BEEN NOMINATED FOR BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR. HOWEVER, THE BEST OF THE BEST IN THIS CLASSIC IS MELVYN DOUGLAS! HE WON HIS OSCAR AS HUD'S FATHER. MR. DOUGLAS HAS SOME OF THE MOVIES GREATEST LINES!...JUST ORDER THIS ONE!

I am aimpressed that such a good movie was made, they've got to be out there. And Hud is one of them. It captures the drama and characterizations you rarely find elsewhere. This is just a great movie.

||Best Movie Of All Time|
Paul newman played the part of a Texas heel so believibly well that he was denied an Oscar which he well deserved. My favorite was Melvyn Douglas though. He stood for all that is good in a man. If you read the book then you know that Homer had accidently shot and killed his wife when Hud was just a boy. That makes Hud's statement, "My Mama loved me, but she died", all the more cruel and bitter, which I believe, was the real rift between father and son. I can't explain my love for this movie. It is just so real and emotionally honest that I'm still impressed by it after countless viewings. It was filmed in Claude, Texas, near Amarillo, where I had spent some years. The filming certainly captured this wide open area and constant wind, blowing dust over everything. It's the most honest movie I've ever seen in my 52 years.
