They Live movie was released Sep 23, 2003 by the Universal Studios Home Video studio. Closed Captioned; Soundtrack English
Aimless drifter John Nada finds work as a construction worker in Los Angeles, where a wide gulf separates the upper classes from the working classes. They Live movie After donning a pair of special sunglasses, Nada discovers that many of society's elite are not humans, but aliens who control humanity through subliminal messages. Now he's the only one who can save the Earth from these villainous invaders.
John Nada (Roddy Piper) is a quiet loner, a drifter who gets work where ever he can find it. While working on a construction site in L.A. and sleeping in a vagrant community at night, John stumbles upon a secret society of alien beings who pose as wealthy and powerful people in human society. John joins a rebel group commited to exposing this conspiracy, and becomes their reluctant leader and the only hope of the human race. Former wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper is outstanding as the unassuming hero, playing the role with understated shock at what he uncovers and stubborn courage when he confronts it. ...See Full Description

| Good Story - Could Have Been Better The concept is this movie is pretty incredible. The idea that there are people around us who are not really what they seem gets pretty metaphysical. Also, times are hard and people are looking for employment which is quite relevant to current times. I give it three stars because I feel John Carpenter failed in one area. There is a pointless fight scene mid-movie that lasts close to a 10-minutes. It did not move the plot forward nor did it add any dimension to the movie. It was simply a cringing time filler. In light of that I do recommend the movie taking it for what it is worth...basically fun. By ychilds (Madison, WI) |
| amazing an increadible thrill ride, rowdy roddy is the king. a wild story, a must buy for anyone looking for a good flick By a reviewer (Wallingford, CT, USA) |
| John Carpenter's THEY LIVE Not one of John Carpenter's best but never the less one of the better sci-fi "B's" out of the eighties. This movie never rises above its B movie acting & production values however it does all come together to provide a surprisingly entertaining movie with a killer take on alien conspiracy theories. Watch this and you will realise that indeed 'They Live'. By pjmiller (Rockhampton, Australia) |
| Big brother is from space. This movie has such a great plot. Using subliminal messages to keep the human race in line is so creepy and one might think its actually happening today. The acting is actually done well even by my man Rowdy Roddy. The fight scene of course is legendary in its length and this movie is the reason I always have bubblegum on me. | Better than it ought to be They live. This is one of those that everyone sees on cable for the first time and wonders, "When was this in theaters?" I don't know. Some scenes are overlong and some writing must have been late at night ("I've come to chew gum and kit ass, and I'm all out of gum", but overall, it works. Non scifi fans won't think much of this, but scifi enthusiasts like it just fine. By Bill (Houston, Texas, USA) |
