King David review Product Description
In KING DAVID, Richard Gere plays the religious title role of David, the shepherd boy who slew Goliath and later ascended to the throne of Israel.
An adaptation of the legendary biblical tale, director Bruce Beresford's film stars Richard Gere as King David, favorite of the God of Israel. Although only a shepherd boy, David is anointed as heir to the throne of Israel by Samuel (Dennis Quilley), who is disgusted with the weakness of Saul (Edward Woodward). ...See Full Description

||Scripture verses media|
holly wood still fights with african american is leading roles concerning the thruth of the bible? To those tha say what is the differnce Isay to them the difference is fact we are not living in the age of ingnorance anymore, o why not just accept the king solomon got his color from SOMEWHERE,either his mother or father or BOTH! Anway the movie is decent enough to bare,however u will not get the full feeling on david's love and his true devotion to GOD and the conflicts that he encountered through his life. Wich brings me to fault two- the movies should have focused on part of his life so that the writing could have been more focused. Do not use movie for the truth of Davids's life- You must read the bible along with the movie.

||Richard Gere Wasn't Right For This Role|
Richard Gere is an excellent actor, however this role wasn't suited for him. Gregory Peck played King David in an earlier film and he did a wonderful job. Gere couldn't compare. I was totally disappointed with Gere's performance and I'm a Gere fan. This movie deviated from the Bible at times. The movie also jumped from one moment-in-time to another moment very quickly. If you're not aware of King David's story then this movie would confuse you. A lot of important scenes regarding Bathsheeba's story were omitted. For instance, in one scene King David is speaking with Bathsheba about her husband's lack of interest towards her, then a few scenes later, David plots to kill Bathsheba's husband so he can marry her. I felt as though a lot of important information was omitted between the plot to kill Bathsheba's husband and David's meeting with Bathsheba. This movie omitted other important information at times, especially the scene where David's son (Amnon) raped his half-sister (Tamar). In one scene Amnon was speaking with Tamar then the next scene Tamar's in a room sobbing because he violated her. A lot of important information was omitted leading to the rape. The scene where David's son Absalom kills his half-brother Amnon for violating their sister was purely hollywood's version of the story because the Bible reveals a totally different version to how - and where Absalom killed his brother. Other than that, the movie was mediocre. I recommend that you read the Bible's version of King David prior to watching this movie.
