Christmas Story review Product Description
This delightfully funny holiday gem tells the story of Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsly) a 1940's nine-year-old who pulls out all the stops to obtain the ultimate Christmas present.
This vignette-laden, nostalgic view of Christmastime in 1940s Indiana follows nine-year-old Ralphie, who desperately wants a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas--and is waging an all-out campaign to convince his reluctant parents that the toy will be safe in his hands. By turns warped and winsome, the comedy follows Ralphie as he prepares for the big day with his rather idiosyncratic family. Based on the novel by humorist Jean Shepherd (who also narrates the film), A CHRISTMAS STORY gained popularity long after its theatrical run, through frequent holiday broadcasts that turned its schoolyard "triple-dog" dares, family neuroses, and childhood indignities into a Yuletide tradition.
Color by Medallion.
Additional cast: Ian Petrella (Randy), R.D. Robb (Schwartz), and Tedde Moore (Miss Shields).

| My home town Of course it's one of the greatest Christmas movies ever but, the first scene in the movie is downtwn Cleveland, Ohio, my home town. I'll never forget watching the Lionel trains in Higbee's department store window back in the forties and fifties. One of my best friend's Mother has a cameo in Higbee's which made it even more special. By Reedbigdogs (Black Creek, WI) |
| A Great Family Movie A good clean family movie for all to enjoy. By bunnyblue58 (Terrytown, La, USA) |
| A Christmas Tradition This is the ultimate Christmas movie, mostly because it doesn't whack you in the head with the "message." You know the one, the Dickensian redemption and affirmation present in Act 3 of every other Christmas picture. God Bless Us every one! Make no mistake, "Story" has plenty of heart. If you don't find yourself misting up, you're probably made out of stone. Mostly, however, it has a great script, and wonderful performances. This is THE Christmas tradition at our house. | The Best Family Movie for any time of the year I have always loved Christmas movies\stories. One of my favorites even at my age is Christmas Story. It is such a movie to watch and to recapture your own childhood through the eyes of your own children. To watch the family struggle to understand the meaning of the real Christmas is such a joy to see, not only at Christmas but at any time of the year is a joy to me. I think personally that this film protrays the real meaning of the "Holiday Seasoning". Thanks for having it available on DVD. You will have my bussiness no matter where I am and I thank you.
