| | Pink Martini Sympathique CD (1997)
Argentine Vals, Tango Et Milonga 1907-1950 music CDs
$13.89 The first album by Portland, Oregon's tongue in cheek lounge pop orchestra Pink Martini, SYMPATHIQUE, was originally released in 1997 on the band's own Heinz label. Although the album contains two originals by singer China Forbes and pianist Thomas Lauderdale, the title track and "Lullaby," the bulk of the album's 12 songs consists of new arrangements of loungy favorites like "Never On Sunday," "Que Sera Sera," "Brazil," and "Song of the Black Lizard," taken from the soundtrack of a Japanese cult film. Unlike contemporaries such as Combustible Edison, Pink Martini had the musical chops and heartfelt love of the style to keep the album from descending into snarky kitsch. In 2009, Heinz Records released the first ever vinyl edition of the album.
Recorded at Stiles Recording Studio, Portland, Oregon, from December 1996 to April 1997.
Pink Martini: China Forbes, Thomas Lauderdale.
Personnel: China Forbes (vocals); Dan Faehnle (guitar); ...

| | Yasmin Levy Mano Suave CD (2007)
Argentine Vals, Tango Et Milonga 1907-1950 CD music
$13.49 Yasmin Levy has proved herself to be the leading exponent of Ladino song (Ladino is the language of the Sephardic Jews whose roots are in Spain). However, her previous albums have never quite captured her potential. This time, though, she's hit the spot, finding both the intensity of performance and delicacy of arrangement that's been her hallmark. The style is a mix of influences that blend perfectly -- listen carefully and you can hear traces of flamenco nestled alongside Middle Eastern music, with influences from around the Mediterranean liberally scattered across the sound. Her voice is in glorious form, with a depth of purity that illustrates just how she's matured and fully grown into her ability. Her own band, now well bedded-in, is superb and sympathetic, ...
| | Franco De Vita Stop Y Algo Mas CD (2005) With DVD
Argentine Vals, Tango Et Milonga 1907-1950 music CDs
$12.29 Franco De Vita has made a reputation for himself over the years for being a creative force in the Latin music industry, both for his work penning songs for other performers and for the songs he performs himself. On Stop + Algo Más, De Vita's artistic individualism shines through more clearly than ever before. His rare and precious harmonic complexity, innovative instrumental arrangements, and incisive lyricism seem to beckon the listener closer. The evocative combination of South American instrumentation otherwise seldom heard together creates a band sound and texture that set De Vita apart from his Latin pop counterparts. Highlights include the emotional, swaggering "Dónde Está el Amor" and the album's rhythmically rich single, "Ay Dios." Though a number of selections entirely forgo Latino musical influences, Stop + Algo Más delivers even the pop selections with soul and dirt. De Vita's vocal performances are subtle and musical, by and large ...
