I Thought It Was the End of the World Then the End of the World Happened Again album for sale Everyone loves a good laugh. That's what you're guaranteed to experience when you hear JUSTIN N. FENNELL. (That's "fin" + "nail") Don't say his name too quick or it sounds like just an infidel! It's yarn-spinning stories, outrageous props, audience participation, funny music and stand-up comedy. The best part of it is that all of his material is clean. There's no need to hit the censor button or turn down the sound so the kids don't hear. His concerts are the kind the whole family can enjoy. Fennell's professional experience includes working in college administration, teaching (psychology and religion courses), and serving his home church as the college, singles, and drama pastor. He has toured professionally for over 16 years as a comedian and is a major hit at conventions, retreats, banquets, camps, colleges, churches and corporations. From the moment Justin hits the stage you know you are in for more than just another "talking head" guest speaker. Justin takes you on a hilarious journey through the ordinaries of life. "I never can look at another road sign again," says a young woman who recently attended one of Fennell's concerts. Another says, "I've never laughed so hard in all my life. I really needed this!"Fennell specializes in clean, "slice-of-life" humor that sees "the funny" in everyday situations, especially those involving families. "I have always been amazed," says Justin, "and tickled at what our parents say to us and we turn around and say the same crazy things when we finally have kids! A lot of that comes into my routines."Fennell tailors each show to his audience. "When I'm performing at churches or with religious organizations I want to let them know that Christians can have a good time too! You don't have to be a 'stick-in-the-mud'" says Fennell. "I try to get them with the comedy first, then share the gospel with them once we're understanding each other a little better." For business oriented groups, Fennell says, "I focus on motivational speaking with a humorous edge. I concentrate most of my material toward personal values, relationships, and communication skills-all with a comic approach that grabs people's attention. I call it "EDUTAINMENT...a guaranteed laugh 'n learn experience.""I enjoy making people laugh, but I believe in getting serious when it's time to get serious," says Fennell. "You've got to have a balance through all of it. It's always an honor to me to be the guest of an event. I receive a great deal of pleasure in seeing others have a good time or pocketing a few golden nuggets of truth." Fennell is an artist representative for Mission of Mercy. Mission of Mercy is a Christian humanitarian relief organization founded in Calcutta, India for the purpose of caring for children. Currently Mission of Mercy feeds over 100,000 children a day in 23 countries around the world. Fennell (since 1962) resides in Lakeland, Florida. His wife's name is Dretha and they have two sons, Nathaniel and Zachary, and a daughter, Anna Marie. His idea of a still of a good time is sittin' back in a rocking chair on the front porch of the house with a handful of Tom's salted peanuts and a "belly-washer" R.C. Cola.

I Thought It Was the End of the World Then the End of the World Happened Again songs This collection takes its name fairly literally; the majority of these names were not found topping the American pop charts during the year in question. But that just makes it all the more enjoyable, adding a sense of discovery (at least for Americans and non-club-goers) to GLOBAL HITS 2002. While a wide variety of artists are represented, from the disco diva sounds of Rapture ("Tastes so Sweet") to the postmodern hijinks of Daft Punk ("One More Time") who make futurist kitsch out of the same elements Rapture tackles in seeming earnest. But the one thing threading all these artists together is their pure danceability. Nonstop club beats keep things hopping throughout GLOBAL HITS 2002; you won't find any wistful singer-songwriters or pretentious nu-metal thuglets mucking things up, just pure dance music presented in a seamless and scintillating fashion that should appeal to boogie people on either side of the big pond. This is a continuous in-the-mix CD. Atc/Bond/Ann Lee/Safri Duo/Mod Jo/Daft Punk/Roger Sanchez/ Audio Remixer: Christian B. Unknown Contributor Role: Safri Duo.

Wilbur Sweatman
Recorded in New York 1916-1935 CDs (2005)
CD $29.99 Buy It  Details
I Thought It Was the End of the World Then the End of the World Happened Again songs Wilbur Sweatman has often been overlooked or written off in jazz history as a primitive clarinetist who, even with the passing of time, sounded like a vaudevillian. Listeners tend to forget just how far back Sweatman goes, for he was born in 1882 and performing professionally as early as 1895, making him a near-contemporary of Buddy Bolden. Sweatman worked in theater orchestras and extensively in vaudeville, learning his craft independent of the New Orleans jazz world. He became famous for playing three clarinets at once although unfortunately, he never recorded that feat. However in December 1916 he recorded two versions apiece of his "Down Home Rag" and "My Hawaiian Sunshine," two months before the Original Dixieland Jazz Band made "Livery Stable Blues," which is considered the first jazz record. Listening to Sweatman's debut (which was preceded by a long-lost 1903 cylinder) makes one wonder a bit, for he sounds as if he is improvising jazz a bit, so perhaps he was really the first to record jazz. Sweatman next recorded with a saxophone quartet in April 1917 (influenced by the Six Brown Brothers) and then made most of his recordings with a rambunctious series of groups during 1918-1920. Those performances, which are mostly all-ensemble, lack any real subtlety although Sweatman does get to show off his technique and some of the tricks that he learned in vaudeville. All of Wilbur Sweatman's recordings are on this two-CD set and they also contain later performances from 1924 (including the first of five versions of Sweatman's "Battleship Kate," which may have Duke Ellington on piano), 1926, 1929, 1930, and four final numbers from 1935. While Wilbur Sweatman would never be considered as important to jazz as such clarinetists as Sidney Bechet and Johnny Dodds, this two-fer inspires one to re-evaluate his standing in jazz history. He was also one of the first worthwhile jazz bass clarinetists, too. ~ Scott Yanow (2-CD set) excludes alternate takes. The set begins with an Emerson recording in December 1916 and concludes with a Vocalion song in March 1935. In between are recordings for Edison, Victor, Gennett, Radiex, Little Wonder, Crescent, Pathe and La Belle Liner Note Author: Mark Berresford. Recording information: New York, NY (12/??/1916-03/27/1935). Authors: Dave Peyton; Garvin Bushell; Perry Bradford. Personnel: Wilbur Sweatman (clarinet, bass clarinet); Walter Gray (banjo); Nathan Glantz (violin, C-melody saxophone); George Smith's Orchestra (violin); Henry "Rubberlegs" Williams (alto saxophone, tenor saxophone); Percy Green (alto saxophone); Ramon Hernandez (tenor saxophone); The Russell Smith Orchestra, William Hicks, Crickett Smith, Charlie Gaines, Arthur Briggs (trumpet); Bud Aiken (cornet); Calvin Jones , Arthur Reeves, John Reeves, Frank D. I Thought It Was the End of the World Then the End of the World Happened Again album for sale Originally from Pennsylvania. Lived all over America, traveled the world. A mom, aunt, sister, and wife. :) I have dabbled passionately in music, particularly singing, since I was born. It is my huge core fun. My best friends and compadres have usually been players who let me indulge my singing jones. I go into a recording studio anywhere and immediately these guys are kindred spirits. I sing them the song with my kindergarten playing and they just jump into it and lay down amazing tracks and then they let me do a vocal with the headphones on. What a blast for a singer. Then they embellish it more and let me finish with a second vocal, harmonies, whatever. They just twirl those buttons and move those levers and work that magic and then they bring me into their part of the studio and they play it for me and I'm always just blown away - Every time. I hope I get to do this for many future lifetimes. I have lived on both coasts and sometimes in my beloved New Mexico. I am blessed to be a traveler and a pilgrim and make it all sacred with the music I make out of it, and still pay the bills, etc. Most recently I've found an open mic at a backwoods bar in Pennsylvania near where I live and once again, I've found all those sweet angel musicians to play and sing with every Thursday night. So its all good, I guess. Thanks for listening.
