| | Ian Britt One Day I... CD (2005)
Charles Mcgee, Finally songs
$17.09 Born in Sheffield, England and moving on after a colourful youth & adolescence, Ian fled his roots to study music in the notoriously musical city of Manchester. He remained here for seven years, achieving a 1st degree honours in Popular Music and Sound Recording, then signing to the independent label Jalapeno Records in London whilst making himself a name locally as an acoustic singer-songwriter.His debut album was recorded in 2005 with a duo of dance/breaks producers and on release was met with a positive and encouraging reaction from national/regional press/radio. The album One Day I culminated in a grand and commandingly produced soulful, Trans-Atlantic sound with mature, honest, sometimes humorous lyrical writing, assured technical ability and a keen melodic pop-rock-radio sensibility.Ian Britt performs constantly in the U.K and more recently in Europe. Over the years he has honed his acoustic shows into authoritative and arresting performances “Ian is most definitely one to catch this year” Ali B-capitol FM. Ian split from his management and label in early 2006 to separate himself from the vision and direction of those people around him, moved back to his hometown of Sheffield and has spent the last year exploring, touring, writing and self recording.A new album was released independently in 2007, entitled “Big Light” and Ian is currently looking for label support, press reaction and radio contact to help promote the work.Ian is about to begin recording his third album independently with a view to releasing in the 2008… after that… who knows?Ian is also part of a side project called IKON, a collective of artists who collaborate on lounge, breaks ...

Charles Mcgee, Finally album
$11.49 A Note on "Almost Off the Dial": Pop Music With Free WillThe great drummer, Shelly Manne, talking about a session with the even greater pianist, Bill Evans, said of jazz musicians that they "should not play anything just for effect, but search for good sound, beauty, taste and an honest overall musical approach, using technique for musical ends alone, always thinking of the group sound and playing naturally. And, of course, in jazz the swing must be there." And our fine contemporary pianist, Bill Charlap, has said that one of the many things he learned from Tony Bennett was to heed the lyric of a song, even if the performance were without a vocalist, and to play the passion ...

Charles Mcgee, Finally album
$13.69 "One of the most interesting newcomers on the American scene, Arizona-bred Kathleen Grace made her recording debut just two years ago, with the impressive Sunrise. Now, with a new band comprised of pianist Matt Politano, bassist Ryan McGillicuddy, drummer Andrew Fockel, percussionist Bobby Wilmore and, most notably, guitarist Perry Smith, Grace kicks it up a notch with this wide-ranging assortment of covers and originals that amplify her genre-blurring dexterity. Hers is a crisp, cool sort of Jo Stafford-meets-Jane Monheit vibe that's as well suited to a sparkling, sun-dappled spin through "I'll Be Seeing You" as it is to the gently countrified, rigors-of-the-road lament "I Return to You," featuring Grace's lyric fitted to Pat Metheny's "Travels." Equally intriguing are her "Sunrise, Sunset," shot through with a vague hint of sinister mystery, and a "Surrey With the Fringe on Top" that's at once as bouncy as an Oklahoma back road and as sleekly propulsive as a racing bike. Like its predecessor, Songbird (is)(named for an original Grace-Smith composition that is Joni Mitchell good)...The airwaves should be full of Grace. -Christopher Loudon, JazzTimes May 2007"After a glowing recommendation ...
| | Com Voca Candeias CD (2007) (Import)
Charles Mcgee, Finally CD music
$17.15 Since their debut in 2003, Com Você has been revisiting the classics of Brazilian music and offering them in fresh, new perspective. The group is led by Polish-born vocalist and arranger Maggie Grebowicz and Texan-born saxophonist Stan Killian. From the bossa nova onwards, they arrange well-known repertoire for the acoustic jazz quintet format. The singer switches freely between Portuguese, Polish, Spanish, English, and word-less vocal, and arrangements feature rich sax-vocal interaction and a variety of complex rhythmic patterns. The group also revisits compositions by American jazz artists whose work engages Brazilian traditions, like Wayne Shorter, Pat Metheny, and Jack DeJohnette. Against the backdrop of today's obsession with bossa nova, Jazzreview.com describes this project as "unique." Peter Westbrook writes: “Overall it is remarkable how these seemingly diverse elements fit together…. It all works, as the singer bends each piece to her unique styling, hands it off to the various soloists, and then reclaims it for a final rendering…. For lovers of both jazz and Brazilian music, this is something fresh that deserves a hearing.” "Candeias" is their long-awaited first CD. Lovers of vocal music will be delighted by Maggie's sound, which has been described as "wistful, pure" (All About Jazz New York) and "soft, ...
