Young Hearts: Complete Greatest Hits album for sale Product Description
Young Hearts: Complete Greatest Hits album for sale by Steve Miller was released Sep 16, 2003 on the Capitol label. Ever since the release of GREATEST HITS 1974-78 in 1978, that particular Steve Miller Band compilation has become the kind of ubiquitous album found in every college student's record collection. YOUNG HEART updates the aforementioned HITS album by including its entire track listing, minus the obscurities "True Fine Love" and "Winter Time." Otherwise, classics like the socially conscious "Fly Like an Eagle," snappy "Jungle Love," sassy "The Joker," and country-fried "Dance Dance Dance" get the digitally remastered scrub and brushing. Young Hearts: Complete Greatest Hits CD music contains a single disc with 22 songs. ...See Full Description

No "Heart Like A Wheel"???? I echo Steve's sentiments. How can this be called "Complete" without "Heart Like A Wheel"? A complete disgrace is more like it. By a reviewer (Long Island, NY)
The best Steve Miller collection CD ever! I loved listening to this Steve Miller music CD from his other previous compilation like Anthology, The Best of 1969-73 and Greatest 1974 to 78 CD's. By CDJay (Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada)
Four Score and Seven Years Not bad! Might not only have been remastered, but possibly remixed in a few cuts! I've heard sounds I've never heard before! In Steve Miller's case that's not necesarrily a bad thing since his bluesy rock is often highlighted by bell and whistle crescendos leading into the main attraction! It's actually pretty powerful until you get down to two or three tracks in the last half dozen cuts! My only complaint is the waste of beautiful wrapping art work to be disposed of to get a black and white of a young Steve Miller that looks like something off the original Star Trek! Obviously the marketing people needed to find a way to boost sales for an otherwise good cd collection with a horrible packaging design! Oh well, I guess these goofballs know what they're doing! Abracadabra! By mheinen3 (Oklahoma City, OK, USA)
Remastered???????? I HAVE EVERY DISC EVER PUT OUT BY STEVE MILLER, WHEN I SAW THIS WAS A REMASTERING BEST OF, I WAS VERY EXCITED TO SAY THE THE LEAST. By PHIL (SAINT AUGUSTINE,FL.)
Perfect This album is great. It has all of Steve Miller's greatest hits. There is just one small problem, the fact that it doesn't have Heart Like A wheel, but it's not a major problem. By TonyG. (Las Vegas, NV)

Who Quick One (Happy Jack) CD (1966)
Young Hearts: Complete Greatest Hits album for sale Principally recorded at IBC Studios, Pye Studios and Regent Sound, London, England in 1966. Tracks 1-10 originally released in the U.K. in 1966 as A QUICK ONE on Reaction (593002). Tracks 11-14 originally released in the U.K. in 1966 on the EP READY STEADY WHO! on Reaction (592001). Includes liner notes by Chris Stamp, the original release liner notes from READY STEADY WHO! by Francis Hitching and the original release liner notes from the U.S. album HAPPY JACK by Nick Jones.
This 1995 reissue of A QUICK ONE includes the original British album along with four songs from the EP READY STEADY WHO!, three B-sides ("Doctor, Doctor," "I've Been Away" and "In The City") and three previously unreleased tracks. A QUICK ONE was first released in the U.S. in 1967 under the title HAPPY JACK, with the single "Happy Jack" replacing the British album track "Heatwave."
A pivotal album in the early career of The Who, A QUICK ONE is the bridge between the band's original incarnation as a hard rockin' mod pop group and its subsequent, more ambitious, experimental phase. The album is also notable because it's centerpiece, "A Quick One, While He's Away," represents Pete Townshend's first attempt at "rock opera," a form which he and The Who would later perfect on TOMMY and QUADROPHENIA. The ten-minute track contains all the elements of the trademark Who style--complex arrangements and vocal harmonies, alternating heavy electric and light acoustic passages and a preoccupation with issues of morality and sexuality.
Also interesting is the fact that A QUICK ONE includes, in addition to several Townshend masterpieces, one Roger Daltrey tune and two excellent songs each from both John Entwistle and Keith Moon. The Entwistle-penned tracks ("Whiskey Man" and "Boris the Spider") are among his best and introduced fans for the first time to the virtuoso bassist's dark, twisted sense of humor. Although prior to A QUICK ONE's release The Who had several hit singles, it was this album that put the music world on notice that Townshend and crew were far more than simply a high energy rock & roll band.

Calico System Duplicated Memory CD (2003)
Young Hearts: Complete Greatest Hits CD music In the grander scope of things, there wasn't much time between the release of Thursday's Full Collapse and Calico System's The Duplicated Memory, and yet the latter seems to belong to some sort of school of screamo that the former had a big hand in creating. The ten songs on this album certainly showcase some diversity in the music and range in the vocals. And while it may seem strong in some ways, The Duplicated Memory is also weak in others. Many other bands seem to have a similar sound at this point in time, but the band seems to have an understanding of the importance of range and mixing things up. Since this is their debut album, hopefully they'll continue to learn and make improvements as time goes on. ~ Kurt Morris

Jesse Colin Young Song For Juli CD (1973)
Young Hearts: Complete Greatest Hits buy CD music Although it was his fourth solo album, Song for Juli was Jesse Colin Young's first full-fledged effort under his own name, following a couple of early folk records, a series of Youngbloods albums, and the tentative Together. Young organized a versatile backup band in which piano, violin, and horns complemented his tenor voice in arrangements that recalled Van Morrison's Caledonia Soul Orchestra (no surprise, since Young and Morrison used several of the same musicians, notably reed player Jim Rothermel) and featured familiar blues, country, and Cajun elements. In his lyrics, Young hewed closely to the current back-to-the-land philosophy, celebrating his family life (Juli is his daughter) and his "Ridgetop" retreat in Marin County, CA. It was a viewpoint that was both self-affirming and xenophobic -- you couldn't help thinking that the people he wanted to leave him alone and the tourists he wanted to keep at bay included at least a few of his listeners. Of course, that's not the way it was thought of at the time, and Young's fans responded strongly to Song for Juli, giving it a higher chart placing than any album the Youngbloods ever made and keeping it in the charts longer than any album he ever made. (Originally released in September 1973 as Warner Brothers 2734, Song for Juli was reissued as Ridgetop Music 1105.) ~ William Ruhlmann
Personnel: Jesse Colin Young (vocals, guitar); Eddy Ottenstein (guitar); John Tenney (violin); Jim Rothermel (flute, clarinet, soprano & alto saxophones); Earthquake (harmonica); Mel Martin (soprano, tenor & baritone saxophones); Bob Ferreira (tenor saxophone); Tom Harrell (trumpet); Gordon Messick, Pat O'Hare (trombone); Scott Lawrence (piano, vibraphone); David Hayes (bass, background vocals); Jeffery Myer (drums); Suzi Young (background vocals).

Leadbelly Leadbelly's Last Sessions CDs (1994)
Young Hearts: Complete Greatest Hits songs Legend has it that when Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter was shown one of the first commercially available tape recorders--as opposed to the then-standard disc-cutting machines--in the fall of 1948, he immediately sat down in front of it for a marathon impromptu recording session. This fact comes across on the first of these discs taken from those tapes: most of its 35 tracks are traditional blues hollers without even his trademark 12-string guitar for accompaniment.
The other three discs are jam-packed with songs, fragments, and often fascinating conversations. Rather than edit the material--which the listener can do quite nicely with a programmable CD player and blank cassettes--the archivists at Smithsonian/Folkways wisely chose to release these four hours of material exactly as it was recorded. As a result, the sound quality is occasionally a bit dodgy, but the historical import and musical quality of these recordings are undeniable.
Recorded between September and November, 1948. Originally released on Folkways (241/2941, 242/2942). Includes liner notes by Frederic Ramsey, Jr. Moses Asch, Sean Killeen, Anthony Seeger, Jeff Place and Matt Walters.
Personnel includes: Leadbelly (vocals, acoustic guitar).

Rev. Edward Clayborn Complete Recorded Works (1926-1928) CD (1994)
Young Hearts: Complete Greatest Hits buy CD music Whereas Blind Joe Taggart was technically the first "guitar evangelist" to cut phonograph records, he only beat Rev. Edward W. Clayborn to the Vocalion recording studio by one month, and on his records, Clayborn was billed as "the Guitar Evangelist". First released in 1994, the Document label's 27-track Clayborn edition demonstrates a much more uniform and strongly focused body of work than Taggart's piecemeal legacy, which is believed to include a small number of worldly blues recordings. The two men sang in a somewhat similar manner, although closer comparisons for Clayborn would be Henry Thomas (on his 1927 "Jonah in the Wilderness") and especially Blind Willie Johnson, although Clayborn applied his slide to the neck of his guitar much more lightly than Johnson. Clayborn's repetitive guitar plucking has been described as "hypnotic," and that word is entirely accurate, for this is an important element in his powerfully transformational art. With the exception of "Death Is Only a Dream," which is a waltz in 3/4 time, his basslines are steady, two-tone alternations which, when listened to in uninterrupted sequence, represent intimate rituals of the most direct and honest sort. Another important parallel exists, and that is with indigenous North American drumming which has more to do with straightforward repetition of tones than with the polyrhythmic traditions of Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. As he imparts moral advice and reassuring spiritual observations, Clayborn's gently insistent voice and incessant ostinato accompaniment are a fascinating combination, and impressionable listeners may get won over for keeps by the man's sincerity and the understated power of his mode of expression. It would be foolish and unfair to evaluate these recordings by entertainment-based standards, and any assessment of their true cultural value needs to stem from a respectful awareness of the spirituality and utterly unpretentious human feelings expressed therein. In 2005, JSP wove Clayborn's works throughout the first half of their four-CD box set Blind Willie Johnson & the Guitar Evangelists. That approach makes for good listening, but in a very real way Document's unflinching presentation of 27 consecutive Clayborn recordings may still be the best way to utterly divest oneself of preconceptions about how vintage African-American sacred music is supposed to sound. For those who are willing to meet Clayborn on his own terms, this disc may be richly savored as a mystic oratorio in 27 movements. ~ arwulf arwulf
