Rap Attack album
$7.59 As one of the first successful rap acts, Whodini albums quickly became standard bearers and necessary purchases for fans. The Brooklyn-raised trio of Jalil Hutchins, Ecstasy, and DJ Grandmaster Dee first came to national attention with the single "The Haunted House of Rock." Their third record, Back in Black, is the follow-up to a multi-platinum album, 1984's Escape. Those expecting a by-the-numbers sequel of sorts to that effort won't be too let down here. Although Back in Black does revisit lyrical and musical themes of previous efforts, it also offers a few new tricks or two. The first track (and a single release), "Funky Beat" features monster bass and drums, the one-two punch of Hutchins and Ecstasy, as well as a rare rap from Grandmaster Dee. The well-produced "One Love" has ...

$13.39 Unfortunately, I NEED A HAIRCUT is best remembered as a record that made things difficult for rap artists. After the album's release, Biz Markie was slapped with a lawsuit by Gilbert O'Sullivan for the unauthorized sampling ...

| | Rapper's Delight: The Best Of Sugarhill Gang CD (1996)
Rap Attack album
$8.65 Contrary to popular belief, the Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" was not the first rap song. For much of the world, however, it represented the first exposure to the burgeoning style, consisting of stripped-down backbeats, sampled music clips, and half-spoken/half-sung rhymed vocals from performers known as MCs. And a fine introduction it was--over the eminently danceable bass line from Chic's "Good Times," rappers Wonder Mike, Master Gee, and Big Bank Hank ...
| | Eric B & Rakim Paid In Full CD (1987) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Expanded Edition
Rap Attack CD music
$7.79 Disc two is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
PAID IN FULL is perhaps the most important album of the middle-school era of hip-hop--"I Know You Got Soul," "I Ain't No Joke," and "Eric B. Is President" are as classic as hip-hop songs get. Eric B. & Rakim pioneered the minimalist sound that would form the new-school of hip-hop aesthetics with Eric B.'s innovative distillation of James Brown samples to pure drum and bass-line splendor and Rakim's narcissistic monotonal lyrical bombast. The title cut forwarded the manifesto that all others in hip-hop were to follow: the eternal search for dead presidents.

| | Never Mind The Bolsheviks: The Best Of The Space Cossacks CD (2005)
Rap Attack album
$12.95 Since this Washington, D.C.-based surf collective only released two albums in its relatively brief existence (from 1996-2000), a best-of collection would seem to be unnecessary. But both of those discs were out of print, at least on CD, as of this compilation's appearance in 2005, so Never Mind the Bolsheviks is now the Space Cossacks' ...

| | Natalie Cole Still Unforgettable CD (2008) Japan
Rap Attack songs
$34.89 As the title clearly implies, 2008's STILL UNFORGETTABLE is Natalie Cole's thematic follow-up to her 1991 hit album, UNFORGETTABLE, WITH LOVE, which was also a tribute to her father--the late, great jazz/pop icon Nat "King" Cole. Once again Cole presents a "virtual" duet with her dad, with his vocals edited into her new recording of the breezy "Walkin' My Baby Back Home." This UNFORGETTABLE also features various entries in the Great American Songbook, including a lightly swinging rendition of "Come Rain or Come Shine" and a swooning version of "You Go to My Head." Although this UNFORGETTABLE is far from unpredictable, it's an enjoyable outing that once again highlights Cole's easygoing, traditional-minded take on standards.
Japanese pressing of the 2008 album from the Pop/Soul songstress includes seven bonus tracks: 'Best Is Yet To Come', 'Something's Gotta Give', 'It Will Have To Do (Until The Real Thing Comes Along)', 'It's Alright With Me', 'Summer Sun', 'Man That Got Away' and 'Willow Weep For Me'. This much anticipated ...
