You Belong to Me is a two-disc, 54-track overview of vocalist Jo Stafford's pop hits encompassing her tenure with Capitol in the '40s and 14 tracks recorded for Columbia in the early '50s. Several of her Top Ten hits and million-sellers are included: "Some Enchanted Evening," "Goodnight, Irene," "If," "The Tennessee Waltz," "Shrimp Boats," "Keep It a Secret," and "You Belong to Me." Also interwoven throughout the program are a few essential duets with Gordon MacRae ("Say Something Sweet to Your Sweetheart," "My Darling, My Darling," "Whispering Hope") and Frankie Laine ("Hey Good Lookin'," "Hambone"). Ken's poetic adaptation of the opening paragraph reads, "As a little girl she had often gone, out into the fields where she stood alone. Amid the tall waves of grass she would sigh, then through her streaming tears, into the wind she would cry, 'O God, please let someone hold me, with tender loving arms, just hold me!' Oh, the cry of this lonely, hurting girl is the cry of lonely children all over the world." The article reminds us all to use the gifts we have wrapped in sleeves and gloves to show a child our love through the power of the loving touch.Other songs are born in the wake of the tragic events of families dealing with the death of all-too-short lives of the children.
