Beautiful nostalgia listening experience This cd was a trip back to yesterday, and the journey was good. An excellent cd, with MARGIE DAY being superb!! Submitted by metronaut60 (Floral Park, NY. USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Scratches included from the sources. I just finished playing a few of the songs on this CD and I’m in a state of bewilderment. When this format first began there was at least one company that was producing a bad product, in that the records that were being used to product the CD were scratchy and the method to eliminate that was not good.
Here it is 20 years later, with so many improvements that some of the older music being produced is breathtaking in scope, sounding umpteen times better than when it was first produced 50 or more years earlier, and suddenly this CD comes out and I don’t know what to think. Not only are the scratches heard, they are as noticeable as if I was playing a record myself. It would appear that none of the CEDAR or other editing methods was used. The scratches are so evident, I’m almost believing that the Acrobat people who produced this, actually wanted to give this a feel of playing one’s record player as opposed to a pristine CD. What other explanation can there be?
The songs are wonderful, but I would have much rather that they didn’t have the clicks and pops that I thought I left behind.

$10.45 One of those rare talents who bucked the jinx of winning the Best New Artist Grammy (which she snagged in 1995), Sheryl Crow accrued an impressive canon over the span of a decade. Starting with this Missouri native's twangy, Rickie Lee Jones-flavored 1993 smash "All I Wanna Do," Crow has made her mark with songs such as the forward-looking "Every Day Is a Winding Road," the pleading ballad ...

Blues With A Beat songs
$16.65 Although Lula Reed did record after 1955 for Chess and Tangerine (and for the King subsidiary Federal), this 24-track anthology wholly sticks to her 1952-1955 King recordings. In addition to numerous singles, it has four 1952-1953 sides she did as vocalist with Sonny Thompson & His Orchestra -- one of those being her most famous recording, "I'll Drown in My Tears" -- as well as a previously unissued outtake and a previously unavailable alternate of "Bump on a Log." Like much of the R&B from the era, it's transitional ...

$20.29 Jim Weider & The Honky Tonk Gurus: Jim Weider (acoustic, electric & slide guitars); Richard Bell (piano, organ, keyboards, synthesizer); Randy Ciarlante (drums, shaker, background vocals).
Additional personnel includes: Lamont Depew (vocals); Colin Linden (electric & slide guitars); Jimmy Eppard (guitar); Robbie Dupre (harmonica); Garth Hudson (soprano saxophone, organ); Crispin Cioe (saxophone); Larry Etkin (trumpet); David Sancious (keyboards, synthesizer, programming); Stan Szelest (piano); Tony Levin, Rob Leon, Harvey Brooks, Roger Mason (bass).
Sessioncat, Johnny Paycheck sideman, and recent inductee into the Band, Jim Weider, his Honky Tonk Gurus, and a role call of top musicians (Tony Levin, David Sancious, Garth Hudson, et al.) take on Weider's roots rock guitar instrumentals and tunes as disparate as Jimi Hendrix's "Little Miss Lover," Chuck Berry's "Deep Feeling," Bobby Womack's "I'm in Love," and the Jimmy Cliff standard "Many Rivers to Cross." With Weider's unquestionable ability to give rock, blues, and R&B the full guitar-athon treatment, the results should find him fans among contemporary blues freaks and jam-band followers. ~ Denise Sullivan
