In the late 1980's, multi-platinum, Grammy award winning producer Pete Anderson worked on two critically acclaimed, very successful compilations entitled, "A Town South Of Bakersfield, Volumes "1 & 2" for Enigma Records. On these compilations were a group of up and comers who would make a significant impact on the world of American popular music. These talented individuals included a young Dwight Yoakam, Lucinda Williams, Jim Lauderdale and James Intveld.
In 2000, Pete began searching for the next wave of talented newcomers. Starting with Oklahoma-based singer/songwriter, Brandon Jenkins and old friends from Texas, Reckless Kelly (who were on the Little Dog Records charity compilation, Will Sing for Food - The Songs of Dwight Yoakam), the project took on a life of it's own. The only requirements to be on the compilation were as follows: 1.
a great song 2. no major record deal and 3. you couldn't live in Nashville.
The end result is incredible - truly the sum is much greater than it's parts. From the opening track where BJ Thomas's honey-rich voice gives life to "Nashville Rain", a song penned by Cisco and Pete Anderson to the moody, "French-cafe'" feel of Sherri's Stanlyn's "Lazy Balloon" - this compilation encompasses the best of America's new country, folk, rock and pop songwriters and presents them at their very best.
