Relishing the artistic freedom afforded by the success of WHAT'S GOING ON, Marvin Gaye recorded this sultry paean to sex. Where its predecessor relied on complex arrangements, the straightforward sound of LET'S GET IT ON focused attention on its tight rhythms, strong melodies, and Gaye's expressive, nuanced singing. For sheer sensual come-on, it's hard to beat the title track, one of the finest celebrations of the joys of human chemistry ever recorded. But the self-explanatory "Come Get to This" and "You Sure Love to Ball" aren't far behind in terms of passionate execution and visceral impact.
Though LET'S GET IT ON has its reflective moments, notably the beautiful ballad "Distant Lover," Gaye's focus is on the here and now, and the intensity of his vocal performances and the silky, fluid feel of the arrangements inform the sensual "carpe diem" philosophy. Just as WHAT'S GOING ON opened the floodgates for political soul music, LET'S GET IT ON defined the "lover man" genre populated by luminaries like Al Green, Barry White, and Isaac Hayes.

Let's Get It On album
$6.59 Most of the songs on SUPERSEXY SWINGIN' SOUNDS are the same songs that first appeared on ASTRO-CREEP 2000, remixed by Charlie Clouser, John Fryer, The Dust Brothers, Mike "Hitman" Wilson, P.M. Dawn and The Damage Twins.
Additional personnel includes: Machine, Brian Tucker (programming); Dave Rockin' Duke.
These remixes of songs from ASTRO-CREEP: 2000 lend a new, ultra-cool ambience to White Zombie's hard-hitting trash-pop songs. Among those doing the remixing are the Dust Brothers and P.M. Dawn. Their remixes give some of these songs an intergalactic feel, with ambient electronic layers and deep techno beats. On other tracks, drum loops, samples and scratches are injected, resulting in a swank hip-hop groove. But even with the intrusion of new sounds, the signature White Zombie amalgamation of metal, dance and trailer-park kitsch ...
| | Nelly Da Derrty Versions: The Reinvention CD (2003)
Let's Get It On CD music
$12.59 While remix albums of all shades were in vogue during 2003, Nelly truly seems to be having fun on DA DERRTY VERSIONS, his addition to the genre. This release is unique in that the remixes are generally by the original producer. Also, the title is a bit of a misnomer, as it implies more stripped-down or crunked-out versions, which are not really what this record is about. However, that's not a bad thing; DA DERRTY VERSIONS is a consistently entertaining record featuring many clever twists, unforgettable guest shots, and one ultra-catchy, all-new track "Iz U."
By far, the most ear-catching moment is the peculiarly inspired reworking of the smash "Ride wit Me" which begins a cappella before a jangly guitar kicks in and reimagines the rap to the tune of John Mayer's "No Such Thing." Nelly's first hit, "Country Grammar," is redone more traditionally as E-40 drops by to add some new verses to complement the slightly tweaked familiar chorus. Hits like the St. Lunatics "Batter Up" and the summer jam "Hot in Herre" are given small but welcome alterations and remain as engaging as ever. The whole album is threaded together by the affable Nelly as the interviewee/tour guide, offering insight into the making of the record itself.
"Noise" is an Australian youth media arts festival where young people are given the chance to remix tracks by the country's best bands. The outstanding remixes are featured on this disc, with original tracks coming from Silverchair, The Waifs and Superjesus.

| | Fiddle Fire: 25 Years Of The Charlie Daniels Band CD (1998)
Let's Get It On music CDs
$10.05 Charlie Daniels displays his exceptional fiddle playing in this compilation of his best fiddle songs. From the obvious inclusions like "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and "The South's Gonna Do It Again," to lesser-known romps like "Texas" and "Talk to Me Fiddle," there isn't a bad track on the disc. Daniels delivers perhaps the definitive version of the country-bluegrass "Orange Blossom Special," and downright rocks the log cabin with "Drinkin' My Baby Goodbye." An excellent collection of Tennessee mountain-inspired fiddle-sawing. ~ Michael B. Smith
Recorded at Twin Pine Studios, Lebanon, Tennessee.

| | Destiny's Child # 1'S CD (2005) DualDisc
Let's Get It On songs
$16.59 This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
Destiny's Child were the biggest female R&B group of the late 1990s and early 2000s, with a superstar status rivaled only by TLC. Despite the media circus surrounding the strife between the three core members of the group, Destiny's Child managed to rack up an astonishing string of #1 hits, all of which are collected on the appropriately named #1'S.
Early smashes like the smooth, rhythmically stuttering "Bills, Bills, Bills," the moody mid-tempo slow jam "Say My Name," and "Independent Women Part 1" (the theme to the film CHARLIE'S ANGELS) are here, of course, as are later hits like their cover of the Gibb brothers' "Emotion" and the sweeping inspirational ballad "Stand Up for Love," the anthem for World Children's Day 2005. With their seductive delivery, elaborate vocal embellishments, and call-and-response dynamics, Destiny's Child cast the mold for urban contemporary R&B at the turn of the century, topping it off with a slick production informed by hip-hop. An overview that shows the group doing what they do best, #1'S ...
| | Kid Rock Live Trucker CD (2006)
Let's Get It On album
$10.59 The sticker on Kid Rock's 2006 LIVE TRUCKER CD warns that the disc includes no bonus tracks, exclusive footage, or remixes, so fans of the Kid that are hungry for new and unreleased material might be disappointed. Yet with the help of his Twisted Brown Trucker Band and a wildly enthusiastic crowd, the Kid lays down his particular brand of "hick-hop" with plenty of honky tonk ferocity and b-boy swagger. "Son of Detroit," "American Bad Ass," and ...

Fresh's "La Di Da Di," Big Daddy Kane's "Ain't No ...
| | Webbie Savage Life CD (2005)
Let's Get It On music CDs
$10.89 In the wake of Lil Jon and the explosion of crunk, producer/rapper Trill came onto the scene, first as part of the trio Trillville, and then as label head/producer. In the latter guise, Trill ushers Webbie onto the national stage with SAVAGE LIFE. The young rapper's debut album is a mixture of crunk-style production, gangsta themes, and Dirty South attitude. The complex verbal dance of some rappers is not for Webbie, though. Instead ...

In conjunction with the Rainforest Action Network Freedom From Oil Campaign and with the 'stop climate change' actions occurring all over the country, The Longhairz Collective has released their new single "Burning." "In your high class Ford on the hot asphalt, why you faking like you have to haul if you’re just trying to have it all? We're burning dinoasaur bones..." A melodic and insightful groove, "Burning" serves as a stark warning of our addiction to oil and of subsequent global climate change. The Long Hairz Collective formed in Ann Arbor in 2001 to ...
