| Consuming Impulse/Testimony Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Classic Early Metal Death Metal This is a must have for all you death metal heads who want to blast a great band on their stereos! Consuming Influence is excellent from start to finish. Listen to "Out of Body" and bang your head. Submitted by lmorgan10 (Fayetteville, NC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Death Metal Glory First off, let me say I don't like death metal. However, that didn't stop me from being thoroughly impressed with this pair of albums, especially TOTA. This album is the more progressive of the two, with a concept, inventive use of keyboards, odd instrumental tracks, and more emphasis on melody and intricate songwriting (and of course some odd time signatures and changes). However, the vocals are better on Consuming Impulse, which is raw aggression: brutal riffs, ferocious blast beats, painful vocal grunts, etc. The reason it stands above other similar albums (like those by Cannibal Corpse of Deicide) is the sheer power and the great technique. Overall, if you like death metal, you'll love this set, and if you don't (like me), just give it a try anyway; there's some great riffs and ideas. Consuming Impulse/Testimony
$6.49 Live Recording
Alice In Chains: Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell (vocals, guitar); Michael Starr (bass); Sean Kinney (drums). Additional personnel: Tom Araya (background vocals). Recorded in 1992. Dirt is Alice in Chains' major artistic statement and the closest they ever came to recording a flat-out masterpiece. It's a primal, sickening howl from the depths of Layne Staley's heroin addiction, and one of the most harrowing concept albums ever recorded. Not every song on Dirt is explicitly about heroin, but Jerry Cantrell's solo-written contributions (nearly half the album) effectively maintain the thematic coherence -- nearly every song is imbued with the morbidity, self-disgust, and/or resignation of a self-aware yet ...

| | Mudvayne Lost And Found CD (2005)
Consuming Impulse/Testimony
$8.99 Mudvayne: Chad Gray (vocals); Greg Tribbett (guitar); Ryan Martinie (bass guitar); Matt McDonough (drums). It's been three years for Mudvayne, three years when metal started to reject its "rap" and "nu" prefixes. At first, Lost and Found reflects that realignment. Vocalist Chad Gray and his mates have nixed the nicknames and makeup for their third Epic full-length, and they try to focus on songs instead of heavy music shtick. However, they equate getting real with the melodramatic plead that interrupts the razor-sharp main part of "Choices," and Gray can't overcome lines like "IMN"'s "No one/No one could ever understand/This life." The song is about suicide, which is very serious. But yelling "F*ck this sh*t!" over ...

"Left Behind" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. Recording information: Sound City Studios, Van Nuys, CA; Sound Image, Van Nuys, CA. Photographer: Neil Zlozower. Arranger: Slipknot. After a couple years of relentless touring in support of their self-titled breakthrough album, Slipknot regrouped to record Iowa, an ode to their home state that consolidates and punctuates everything that had garnered the band its cultish following. The monstrous guitar crunch, the concrete-dense rhythmic foundation, the frenzied singing, and ...

Consuming Impulse/Testimony
$12.09 In This Moment: Maria Brink (vocals); Blake Bunzel (guitar); Chris Howorth (guitars); Jesse Landry (bass guitar); Jeff Fabb, (drum). In This Moment's full-length debut is packed with edgy, rapid-fire, melodic metal, with a special bonus being its singer Maria Brink's varied vocals, which turns from guttural to angelic before you can say Ronnie James Dio. Los Angeles' In This Moment had two years in which to hone and perfect their material before getting to work on this, their debut album, but the resulting tunes still impress for containing not a single wasted note or poorly rendered song idea. Beautiful Tragedy's best single is precisely its title track, whose duality of meaning concurrently defines the band's intention to mine the rich rewards afforded by the melodic metalcore template. To the fulfillment of that purpose, vocalist and focal point Maria Brink is of course crucial and inseparable; her fierce screeching providing the necessary counterpoint for her own soaring clean singing, which ...
