Revisiting the teenage slasher movies of the 1970s and 1980s, WRONG TURN is a tense, suspense-packed horror film starring Eliza Dushku (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER). When Chris (Desmond Harrington) is late for a job interview, he drives speedily through a backwoods dirt road, and winds up in a head-on collision with a group of teenage campers. As the cars are totalled, the group has no option but to trek through the woods and seek help. Stumbling upon a mysterious cabin, the unhappy campers soon realize they are in grave danger when they happen upon a mixture of grotesque oddities and body parts, soon followed by the return of the freakish inhabitants of the disgusting abode. The intensity builds as the inbred, kill-crazy cabin dwellers go after Chris and the campers, leading to some grisly scenes in the dense woodland, and a series of brutal, bloody set-pieces from director Rob Schmidt. WRONG TURN takes similar backwoods horror flicks like TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and THE HILLS HAVE EYES as its inspiration, providing visceral thrills aplenty, and the requisite amount of dumb teenage characters. Never lapsing into self-parody, the film should appeal to older horror movie fans keen to revisit the movies of their youth, and younger fans eager to witness some modern-day stalk-and-slash mayhem!

Theatrical Release: May 30, 2003

5 stars A Stellar Slasher!
Finally, a slasher film is released that doesn't make my bowels ache. In the tradition of films like "Just Before Dawn" and "Hills Have Eyes", this movie is highly recommended. Great cinemaphotography, music score, action, thrills, good acting, captivating location, and excellent special effects by Stan Winston (also produces). I like this movie most for the reason that it is old school. A well done effort!

4 stars Good, but short
I loved this movie, but I thought it was a little too short. I am definately looking forward to Wrong Turn 2 "Dead End". But I definately think this is a good movie, just wish it was longer, with a few more killings.

In FINAL DESTINATION 2, the basic notion of cheating mortality is further refined with an even more gripping plot provided by Eric Bress & J. Mackye Gruber, the duo behind the film BLUNT. Director David R. Ellis revels in film as an entertainment vehicle and the result is a no-holds-barred raucous good time. Ellis' background as a stuntman and stunt coordinator helps him build electric suspense through a chain of seemingly simple actions that in fact loaded and lethal. In the original, FINAL DESTINATION, a group of students avoided the tragic crash of Flight 180 when Alexander Browning had a premonition. Death, however, didn't like being outwitted, and one by one the survivors died in freak accidents. The sole survivor was Clear Rivers (Ali Larter) who voluntarily checked into a padded room at Stonybrook Institute. FINAL DESTINATION II takes place on Flight 180's one-year anniversary. Kimberly Corman (A.J. Cook) is joyriding with some friends on Route 23 when she "sees" herself, her friends, and other drivers involved in a massive multi-car pileup. The scene is so artfully executed, it physically hurts to watch. She and police officer Thomas Burke (Michael ...

Loosely inspired by the time-honored Disney theme-park ride, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL is a swashbuckling high-seas tale directed by Gore Verbinski. When Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), an eccentric rogue, arrives at Port Royal, he barely avoids going down with his ship. Soon enough, he's in the market for a new one, but not before he saves the life of Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), the beautiful daughter of the governor (Jonathan Pryce). This act of bravery sets into motion a sweeping adventure involving Elizabeth's childhood friend, blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom); a mysterious medallion; and a legendary pirate ship, the Black Pearl. The Pearl's mottled Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) wants Elizabeth's doubloon necklace, and when she's kidnapped by the ol' salty dog and ...

The prehistoric winged slime ball known as the Creeper is back for seconds in JEEPERS CREEPERS II, on an all-you-can-eat binge before hibernating for another 23 years. His first victim is local farm boy Billy Taggert (Shaun Fleming), whose shocked father Jack (wild-eyed Ray Wise) watches, uncomprehending, as his son disappears amidst violently rustling corn husks. The monomaniacal Taggert scours the surrounding area for clues, but the Creeper (Jonathan Breck) has moved onto its next target: a school bus full of basketball players. As jocks Jake Spencer (John Hammond) and Scott Braddock (Eric Nenninger) torment gay high school journalist Izzy Bohen (Travis Schiffner) and clairvoyant cheerleader Minxie Hayes (Nicki Lynn Aycox), the Creeper watches. When the bus breaks down on East 9 Highway, the Creeper pounces, employing supernatural ...

In UNDERWORLD, a dark and Gothic monster action movie, vampires and lycans--an ancient form of werewolf--are at war. While the vampires inhabit a gigantic castle that houses their ancestor's tombs, the lycans live underground in a dilapidated sewer cave. Both teams are equipped with big guns, and they are constantly innovating deadlier bullets to gain advantage over each other. On the vampire side, the leather-clad death agent Selene (Kate Beckinsale) delegates teams of vamps to attack the lycans. But when she discovers that the lycans have kidnapped a human medical student, Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman), she knows the worst is on its way. Against the orders of her superior, Kraven (Shane Brolly), ...

Veteran slashers Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees join forces in this combination sequel to the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and FRIDAY THE 13TH series. The film begins with a quick recap of both Freddy and Jason's "lives," underscoring their respective motivations to kill and their distinct weaknesses. Freddy (Robert Englund) explains that the present children of Elm St. (including Monica Keena, Jason Ritter, Katherine Isabelle, and Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child) have no memory of him, and if they don't know he exists, he can't enter their dreams to kill them. Ingeniously, he reaches out to Jason (Ken Kirzinger), the brutish death machine from Camp Crystal Lake, to go on an Elm Street killing spree, hoping a lot of gory murder will jog ...

From the school of THE OFFICE and THIS IS SPINAL TAP comes this largely improvisational single-camera sitcom set in a tragically underused milieu that's ripe for hilarity--the small-town supermarket! Leslie (Eric Lehr) is a New York City businessman who's on the verge of going under when his father passes away, leaving the family business without an owner. Leslie, doing what he has to do, moves back home to make sure the Greens & Grains grocery store isn't bought out by its competitor, a daffy and inappropriate value mart manager named Amy Anderson (Jennifer Elise Cox, THE BRADY BUNCH MOVIE). Now in charge of an entire establishment of oddball supermarket employees, Leslie, who isn't exactly debonair himself, seems to land in a strange situation every week. But, despite the occasional exploitation of a Jesus-shaped ...
