| | Orange Twin Records Sampler CD
Athens, GA's Orange Twin Records released this 12-track sampler in 2002. The disc begins with Neutral Milk Hotel's "Everything Is" from the band's debut single. What follows is a sampling of some of Athens' best and brightest psychedelic indie rock, including Elf Power's cover of Chris Knox's "Nothing's Gonna Happen" from their Nothing's Going to Happen disc of cover songs. Elephant 6 supergroups Great Lakes and Gerbils follow, as well as the intricate "The Eggleston Guide" by Goodship. Elyse Weinberg is featured on "Last Ditch Protocol" from Orange Twin's re-release of the 1968 psychedelic-folk classic. Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeff Mangum's live solo cover of Phil Spector's "I Love How You Love Me" is certainly a highlight of the compilation, as are the layered sound effects on Major Organ's "Life Form." The disc ends with an excerpt from Orange Twin Field Works, Vol. 1, as recorded by Magnum at the Koprivshtista Festival in Bulgaria in August 2000. The music on Orange Twin Records Sampler is startlingly diverse, proving that Athens is more than just R.E.M. territory. ~ Stephen Cramer

Orange Twin Records Sampler album
$11.39 It took over 30 years to shake loose The Moses Lake Recordings, yet another Curt Boettcher-Keith Olsen production, from the befuddled chaos of 1960s rock. The album is obscure even by the producers' normal standards. It is also atypical of almost everything else for which the pair was responsible. The main reason for the anomaly is, of course, the Bards, a band not only drastically different from any other combo out of the Pacific Northwest but staggeringly unique in the genre. Boettcher and Olsen, in turn, responded with an equally idiosyncratic production, experimenting with buoyant horn charts ...

Orange Twin Records Sampler CD music
$17.05 Contains 27 tracks of Australian psychedelic rock originally released on Festival Records.
The Australian pop-psychedelia scene of the late '60s was more akin to the British pop-psych scene than the American one, though it borrowed from both of those cousins. Really, however, it wasn't as distinctive as either, nor did it have many tunes to rate on par with the best of those from the U.K. or U.S. Nonetheless, this 27-track anthology of Oz pop-psych from 1967-1970 does cover a scene that's rarely been noted by rock collectors or historians, particularly outside of Australia. Licensed from the Festival label (with the exception of a couple ...

Orange Twin Records Sampler music CDs
$13.85 Although Scott McCaughey pays his bills as a loyal R.E.M. sideman, the longtime Young Fresh Fellows frontman's Minus 5 project has allowed him to explore his fundamental pop/rock leanings with colleague Peter Buck on albums like 2001's acclaimed Let the War Against Music Begin. Recorded in tandem with that set, I Don't Know Who I Am -- a limited-edition disc reportedly restricted to a pressing of just 2,000 copies -- is far darker and more experimental, as evidenced by the set launcher, "There Is No Music." ...
