A pairing of two Eagles albums that feature essentially different bands, this double disc is a little unsettling. The Desperado-era group featured Bernie Leadon, whose skills were primarily in the Americana and bluegrass direction, and he played a big part in giving that album its roots feel. Leadon was gone by the time Hotel California was released and Don Felder and Joe Walsh had stepped in as guitarists, giving the band a harder rock edge. Although the trademark Eagles harmonies may give the illusion that these two releases fit well together, they really work different ends of the street. ~ Steve Leggett
