What Mary Says: Jin Shin Jyutsu CD music
$10.09 FROM THE CRADLE won the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album. It was also nominated for Album Of The Year.
Some 30 years after cutting BLUESBREAKERS with John Mayall, Slowhand is back--and he's plugged in, too. From the Elmore James-styled slide grunge that heralds Leroy Carr's classic "Blues Before Sunrise," to his sweet, pearly tones on an agonizingly slow "Third Degree," it's clear that FROM THE CRADLE really is your parents' Eric Clapton.
Nearly every album Clapton's ever done has had a suggestion of his roots. But there's more than a suggestion of blues on impassioned, unhinged solos like "Five Long Years," "It Hurts ...
| | Shoutin' In Key: Taj Mahal & The Phantom Blues Band Live CDs (2000)
What Mary Says: Jin Shin Jyutsu music CDs
$16.65 Taj Mahal & The Phantom Blues Band: Taj Mahal (guitar, dobro, harmonica, percussion); Denny Freeman (guitar); Mick Weaver (piano, Hammond B-3 organ); Larry Fulcher (bass, background vocals); Tony Braunagel (drums, percussion).
A rock solid performer with a deep bag of material and genres to draw from, Taj Mahal is a first-rate musician who delivers live as well as he does in the studio. On this set recorded at The Mint in Los Angeles during a set of dates in November 1998, Mahal pulls together a back-up band of crack musicians whose resumes include stints playing behind legends Otis Rush, B.B. King, and Buddy Guy. For this set, Taj's selections run the gamut from a punchy reading of Sam & Dave's "Ain't That a Lot of ...

| | Jack McDuff Tobacco Road CD (1967) (Import) Australia
What Mary Says: Jin Shin Jyutsu CD music
$13.79 This remastered album features the Midwest jazz organist performing a variety of mid-1960s standards like "The Shadow of Your Smile" as well as traditional tunes like "Wade in the Water" in his inimitable style.
Brother Jack McDuff recorded an enormous number of albums during the '60s, so it can be difficult to figure out where to start digging a little deeper into his output (which Hammond B-3 fans will definitely want to do). 1967's Tobacco Road stands out from the pack for a couple of reasons. First, unlike many of his groove-centric albums, it's heavy on standards and pop/rock tunes (seven of nine cuts), which make for excellent matches with McDuff's highly melodic, piano-influenced style. What's more, about half of the album finds McDuff leading a large ten-piece ensemble arranged and conducted by J.J. Jackson, including a soulful horn section that sounds straight out of Memphis or Muscle Shoals (though this was recorded at Chess studios in Chicago). McDuff himself handles the arrangements on the rest of the material, which is done in a guitar/sax/drums quartet. The LP's style is fairly unified, though -- no matter what format, the tunes are given fantastically funked-up treatments that sound surprisingly natural. And these aren't grooves where everyone just settles back and stays in the pocket; McDuff attacks the arrangements ...
| | Going Driftless: An Artist's Tribute To Greg Brown CD (2002)
What Mary Says: Jin Shin Jyutsu music CDs
$14.65 "Lately" (Lucinda Williams) was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Female Country Vocal Performance.
Modern folk singer-songwriter Greg Brown has an impossibly deep, husky voice that delivers songs full of gritty, earthy images dredged up from the Middle American underbelly. Ostensibly not the most likely candidate for an all-female tribute album until you notice the strong thread of compassion and enduring humanity, not to mention simple, effective melody, running through his work. Accordingly, some of the finest ...
