Ronnie Spector's vocal work on the "Miami" Steve Van Zandt tune "Baby Please Don't Go" is amazingly perfect, overshadowed only by the majesty of the opening track, "Say Goodbye to Hollywood." The two songs were on a 1977 Epic single and they are the highlight of this superb collection released by the Raven label out of Australia. Dangerous is a compilation that features the various sides Spector cut for Columbia. The Top Five hit "Take Me Home Tonight," released in 1986 as a duet with Eddie Money, was the only one of his ten hits to land that high on the charts. It is also Spector's second biggest career hit under "Be My Baby," which, of course, is what she sings in this tune. Her other track with Eddie Money, "Who Can Sleep," provides more proof that she brought the best out of Money. "Who Can Sleep" works in the same way that "Baby Please Don't Go" grabs you -- with slow-moving intensity. Her cameo on a Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes album, "You Mean So Much to Me," sounds like the duet that it is in the context of this album. These five performances precede the re-release of her Unfinished ...

Angel Baby Revisited
Rosie & The Originals Angel Baby Revisited CD  (2001) Revisited

Something's Gonna Happen: Ronnie Spector Sings Marshall Crenshaw music CDs
CD $14.75
The prior The Best of Rosie & the Originals compilation on Ace had already found it a stretch to gather enough material to pad out a full-length retrospective, relying on numerous previously unissued tracks and flop singles to make up the quota. Angel Baby Revisited, a collection of odds and ends that didn't make it onto the best-of, really scours too deep and wide to come up with yet another disc's worth of material, much of which really doesn't deserve a hearing. This kind of release is for collectors who want everything, though, not more discriminating listeners. Still, even such collectors may be disappointed to find that only eight of these 23 tracks are from Rosie's early-'60s heyday. Six of those vintage numbers are taken from her 1961 Lonely Blue Nights album, and are mediocre, light, early-'60s pop-R&B, though she sings pretty well on these. The other two are from her rare, and similarly unremarkable, 1962 single on Globe. Few details are given about the origins of the remaining selections, all but one of which date from 2000-2001. Rosie sings alright on these modern recordings, but the material is uninspired (whether remakes of oldies or otherwise), and the production is perfunctory and sometimes ill-suited in its modern instrumentation. When it gets to a cappella versions of "Dedicated ...
Eight Teeth To Eat You
Cursive Eight Teeth To Eat You CD  (2002)

Something's Gonna Happen: Ronnie Spector Sings Marshall Crenshaw songs
CD $9.05  Audio Samples
Omaha, NE's Cursive collaborated with Japan's Eastern Youth on this eight-song split disc. Eight Teeth to Eat You was released as a split between Better Looking Records and Five One Inc in 2002. The indie/experimental stylings of Cursive are featured on the disc's first four songs. "Am I Not Yours?" is an emotional track with Gretta Cohn's cello adding a unique allure to the sound. "Escape Artist" features a chaotic vocal interplay between Tim Kasher and Ted Stevens. The Cursive half of the disc ends with "May Flowers," which borders between math rock and indie balladry. The song turns fierce after a modest, soft beginning. The Cursive tracks were recorded in Lincoln, NE, at Presto Recording Studio. The trio of Eastern Youth is led by guitarist/vocalist Hisashi Yoshino, who is backed by the rhythm section of Tomokazu Ninomiya (bass) and ...

Annie Haslam enters the new millennium as a new age priestess, or so it would seem from this anachronistic record. Drawing alternately from her prog rock roots in early Renaissance and contemporary new age music, Haslam makes a curious metamorphosis in her first new album in nearly five years. Kind of a spiritual concept album, The Dawn of Ananda does ...
