Coming Up Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) this may be their best Yeah, it's only an EP, but song-for-song, this may be Ozo's very best. It's partially because Ozo is at their best when they do their Latin barnburners, and ALL of the songs on this CD fall into that category. Contains the stunning "Ya Viene El Sol," plus several other great tracks like "Esa Morena" and "Pensando en mi Vida." There's also a great collaboration with A. B. Quintanilla III & Kumbia Kings called "Mi Gente." I don't always like their English-language stuff, but the sole English-language song here, "Let Me Dream" is the best English-language song they've ever done--sounds like Brian Wilson goes to Brazil or something like that. If you like powerful, modern Latin music, buy this, you won't be disappointed. Submitted by mabewa (Osaka) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Quality Man, this band is on fire here in L.A.!! If you're one of the lucky ones to have seen them live, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Buy this CD, you won't regret it. It's a warm up to their new full length album due out in Feb '04. Submitted by a reviewer (Los Angeles, Ca) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Coming Up
$15.35 Taking their moniker from the Aztec monkey god of dance, Ozomatli displays every bit of the exuberance and playfulness of their namesake, throwing in some of the creature's often-overlooked ferocity to get their point across. Formed in the slums of LA, the band boasts a multi-ethnic membership which often numbers well over the ten core members featured on the album. Legendary for the infectious energy and contagious groove achieved in the live arena, where their shows often spill into the street and become spontaneous street parties, Ozomatli made sure that their self titled debut would do everything possible to capture the live experience in a recorded setting.
OZOMATLI reacts to the chaos and danger of their home town with a wistful, often cynical message: the album's opener, "Come Ves" warns against believing everything you're told, atop a furious backdrop of Latin accompaniment, while the chilling "Coming War" follows today's violent trends ...

EMBRACE THE CHAOS won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album.
This multi-cultural Latin-American rock/funk/pop aggregation first came to public attention in the late '90s with an eclectic, groove-heavy approach and a celebratory aesthetic that endeared them to all comers. On EMBRACE THE CHAOS, Ozomatli continues to nurture their broad vision while venturing into new areas. While the album opens on a relatively familiar ...
| | Steve Earle Jerusalem CD (2002)
Coming Up
$14.29 JERUSALEM was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
For a singer-songwriter who proclaims himself "somewhat to the left of Mao" it's no surprise that Steve Earle has drawn the ire of the right for challenging the status quo, particularly around the one-year anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks. The bone of conention on his 2002 outing JERUSALEM is "John Walker's Blues," a moody, mid-tempo number that attempts to explore the reasoning behind "American Taliban" John Walker Lindh's actions. It triggered a wave of knee-jerk reactions accusing Earle of being everything from the second coming of Hanoi Jane to a washed-up anti-American opportunist.
Conservatives will likewise scoff at his trenchant commentaries on illegal immigration (the Augie Meyers-flavored Tex-Mex shuffle "What's A Simple Man To Do") and the transformation of baby boomers from idealistic revolutionaries to self-absorbed merchants of greed (the chugging ...

| | Tom Waits Real Gone CD (2004)
Coming Up
$13.25 The absence of piano is significant--Waits's jazzy harmonic underpinning is entirely dismantled here, leaving only the most basic, blues-oriented structures atop which Waits hangs his distinctive poetic imagery, at once surreal and highly detailed. There's an overwhelming sense of darkness ("How's It Gonna End," "Dead and Lovely"), but there are also moments of pure unfettered glee "Metropolitan Glide," "Shake It"), which are often goosed along by Waits's son Casey on turntables and percussion. A perennial romantic, Waits does let in a little melodic sunshine on the poignant closing ballad, "Day After Tomorrow," but for the most ...
