| | Rafa El Tachuela Flamenco Rumba Guitarras CD Rafa El Tachuela Discography of CDs
The seventh album from German flamenco artist Rafa el Tachuela's work with ARC Records explores the influence of flamenco music on the rumba, and more importantly the influence of the rumba on modern flamenco guitar music. The flamenco usage of the rumba is one of the forms of the Ida y Vuelta (there and back) rhythms in use in modern guitar stylings, as the rhythms of the Caribbean and South America have come into fashion in the Spanish guitar circles. If the all-important cante flamenco is left out of the mix (as it often is in the modern tendency to focus on guitar virtuosity), then the foreign rhythms can add a surprising amount of energy to the guitar work. Here, Tachuela works his way through a surprisingly large number of tracks, accompanied only by Pablo Carcamo's bass and the percussion work of Hossam Ramzy (and occasionally some help on a drum set from Carcamo). Even with a stripped-down group though, as well as the lack of a singer, there's some quite worthwhile music here. It's not pure flamenco by any means, but that doesn't invalidate it musically. The additional rhythmic components help out what could otherwise become a tedious (though outstandingly performed) two hours of acoustic guitar. Of course, some of the luminaries of the genre are always recommended, but the talent of Tachuela is surprising and definitely worth hearing. ~ Adam Greenberg
Personnel: Rafa El Tachuela (flamenco guitar); Pablo Cárcamo (bass instrument, drum, percussion); Hossam Ramzy (percussion).

| | Michael Buble It's Time CD (2005)
Flamenco Rumba Guitarras CD music
$11.65 Michael Buble's third major US release (including the mostly live COME FLY WITH ME) stays on message--this young Canadian loves the lush, swaying music of his parents' and grandparents' generations. Buble's albums, however, are much more than mere back-in-the-day exercises. The production and arranging of David Foster (Celine Dion, Josh Groban) is eclectic in a way that firmly places the tunes at the dawn of the 21st century, and, more importantly, Buble possesses the chops and sense of style to re-imagine the adult-contemporary vocal genre in a distinctive manner. In addition to standards by Gershwin and Porter, Buble embraces a variety of sounds, from Motown ("How Sweet It Is") to bossa nova ("Quando, Quando, Quando" with Nelly Furtado) to the Beatles ("Can't Buy Me Love" with a "She Loves You" tag). With his smooth croon and charming persona, Buble is a natural performer, and, for fans of fearlessly romantic and infectiously swinging music, IT'S TIME is a sure bet.
Although it took more than a year of concerts and promotional appearances, Michael Bublé's 2003 debut disc of swinging pop standards finally ascended the Billboard album chart and landed at number 47. That peak may not seem impressive at first, but in a musical world dominated by rap or the latest flavor of alternative rock, Bublé's upper chart appearance was a real accomplishment and it sparked a renewed interest in music associated with great vocalists like Frank Sinatra. With his second studio disc, It's Time, Bublé builds upon the musical foundation he laid with his debut and demonstrates that he is much ...

Flamenco Rumba Guitarras CD music
$7.49 Recorded between 1966 and 1971. Originally released on Decca. Includes liner notes and interviews with band members by Todd Everett.
Somewhere between Bing Crosby's vocal novelties back in the '40s and the current popularity of dance troupes like Riverdance and Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance, the flag of Irish music was held aloft in North America during the '60s by the success of the Irish Rovers. Patterning themselves after the Clancy Brothers (another popular group during the folk boom of the late '50s and early '60s), the group scored their 15 minutes of fame with the children's novelty, "The Unicorn," included here on Best of Irish Rovers. But the group was no children's novelty act, as witnessed ...

He told me I could get up on stage and play a song if I wanted," recalls Bivens. It was daytime and the stage was closed off behind a heavy, velvet curtain. "I climbed up there and kicked out a version of an old Conway Twitty song with my buddies. I didn't think that anyone could hear us, but when we got done I heard a little bit of applause. I peeked out from behind the curtain and saw my dad, the clubowner, and Tammy Wynette."...in 2002, Jimmy found himself sharing the stage with country great Clay Walker's bandmates Rex Wiseman...... ...
