| | Jeff Baker Baker Sings Chet CD Jeff Baker Discography of CDs
Baker Sings Chet is the debut album from Jeff Baker, a Boise native that generally sings the choir and club circuits of the area. It's also a clever little play on Chet Baker's debut album title, Chet Baker Sings. The songs presented are all items that were associated with Chet Baker's repertoire over the years, with his classics all here to be heard. The musicians, aside from Baker, are largely veterans from the Origin Records stables, with Rob Walker, Brent Jensen, and Stan Bock leading the horn sections, Chuck Smith on piano, Jeff Rew on bass, and Steve Hill on drums. The band itself acts almost entirely as the background for Baker's songs, only stepping out occasionally with Jensen or Walker borrowing a line from the classic Chet recordings. The real star of the album is Jeff Baker (as one would hope), as he can alternately croon his way through "My Funny Valentine" or scat a path through an old Gershwin number, showing equal prowess either way. Often, the artists hailing from the smaller cities end up having less exposure and less development in jazz, and Idaho certainly isn't known for its local jazz scenes (aside from the Lionel Hampton festivals), so the abilities and existence of Jeff Baker and his sound are something worth pondering in the first place. Moreover, his work is worth hearing, of course, by fans of Chet as a nice tribute album, but also by newcomers to vocal jazz that haven't heard the cool male sound before, or at least not a good execution of the cool male sound. Baker does a fine job in recreating both the technical ability and the mood of Chet's old work, despite being 40 or 50 years removed. ~ Adam Greenberg
Boise-based Jeff Baker offers this tribute to the vocal stylings of Chet Baker. While not a clone of Chet, the arrangements on the album and Jeff's haunting, smooth, and provocative vocal treatment recall the legendary song styling of the trumpeter/vocal

Baker Sings Chet songs
$36.95 It goes without saying that a five-CD box set of the Fall live in one of their tumultuous eras is for the hardcore only. The set contains three shows from April 2001 and two from November 2001. The sound quality goes from flat soundboard recordings to a handheld somewhere in the rowdier part of some acoustically poor venue. A good portion of the songs appear once on each CD, some of the versions are downright sloppy, and the Fall would become consistently brilliant again a year later. In other words, if you only own 20 Fall CDs, make sure this isn't one of them. That said, it does give the legion of Fall fans a good view of how the band handled the transition from the triumphant The Unutterable to the less than ...
| | Elwell Brothers On The Right Track CD (2004)

$16.45 Born and raised in Southern California. Wes and Don Elwell are the two youngest boys of ten children. At an early age, they lost their father to a heart attack and were raised by the oldest brother and their mother. Wes and Don's mother was musically gifted and raised the children in a Christian environment. Since they had no television, many nights were spent sitting around singing hymns. At an early age the boys were asked to sing at special services at a small chapel the attended in Pomona California, giving them a good start for their musical talents. In 1982 their mother passed away, probably their #1 fan, but with a lot of love and support and family closeness their musical interests grew. Both Don and Wes moved to Phoenix for ...
