A fascinating and emotive performer, Tori Amos first entranced listeners in 1992 with her acclaimed solo debut, LITTLE EARTHQUAKES. The intriguing TALES OF A LIBRARIAN collection files songs from that landmark release along with others from the following 11 years.
Clearly--and proudly--influenced by Kate Bush, Amos can indulge in lush, dramatic compositions as on "Precious Things" and "Crucify," but she is also capable of whittling her songs down to spare piano-and-vocal tunes such as "Way Down" and "Baker Baker." Amos shows even further range on this compilation by including the beat-heavy dance remix of "Professional Widow" and noticeably "reconditioned" tracks such as "Crucify" and "God." And, of course, the renowned redhead also sticks to the time-honored two-new-tracks tradition, offering up the dreamy "Angels" and the spry "Snow Cherries from France." In addition, the DVD portion of this release features live performances, remixes, and more for the sure-to-be-pleased Tori enthusiast.
This CD/DVD combination jewel case features top hits by Tori Amos. There are twenty songs on the CD. The bonus DVD features 3 newly filmed live songs and 2 additional remixed 5.1 audio tracks.
Includes bonus DVD.

Snow cherries in france is just another example of the little gems that tori creates from her incredible imagination. Submitted by wally lamb (crescent park) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Tori's Collective Plethora Tori Amos can not be pigeonholed. She is a piano Goddess of the most ethereal kind. This album recreates some of the sound quality on the older songs, and there are a few surprises, i.e. Mary, and the new Snow Cherries From France and Angels. As always, she delivers to her fans a beautiful package d emotional rainbow. She stretches way back to the early days, but skips Strange little Girls and Scarlet's Walk altogether. But, that was not the point of this work. This piece gives those who are most familiar with her a sense of liberation, and offers those who don't yet know her a sense of intrigue. some of her best gathered on one disc how can you possibly try to fit tori's "best" songs (or "girls" as she refers to them!)into one disc?! it is a huge task and tori managed to pick a great bunch to include on tales plus some awesome B-sides (re-recorded!)and new songs; one of which is the beautiful love ballad, "snow cherries from france" in it, we hear from a girl who knows she may lose the love of her life but takes the risk anyway (it sorta reminds me of a "northern lad" part 2). it includes some of the best from little earthquakes but, like others have commented on, afew more from pele and venus would've been nice but, you'll just have to check out those albums and all her others!:)if you're already a toriphile, tales is still worth checking out to hear the songs in their original (and different from the albums) format, don't overlook this reissue! AMAZING BEST OF Some, as stated in previous reviews seem to fault this compilation for not including anything from Tori's 2002 Epic Records album "Scarlet's Walk". no tracks from that album are included in this release because this CD was released by Tori's former label Atlantic Records, they do not have the rights to her new stuff, nor would they allow Epic to re-release any of Tori's Atlantic work. Toru owed one more album on her Atlantic Deal and this is what she gave the label, a beautifully remixed and remastered collection of her songs from 1991-2001. as well as a few new versions of older b-sides, and 2 previously unreleased studio outakes
a perfect disc.
this represents her past accomplishments and "Scarlet's Walk" (Epic 2002) picks up where it leaves off. Submitted by thirdavenuenorth (virginia, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
