Product Description
Principally recorded at Ocean Way, Nashville, Tennessee and Ken's Gold Club, Franklin, Tennessee. The Mavericks shook up country music in the 1990s with their combination of snappy, neo-traditional honky tonk and un-ironic retro pop-rock styles, and then went on an extended hiatus.2003's THE MAVERICKS (not to be confused with their eponymous debut album) finds them resuming where they left off--they present a tight, accomplished but heartfelt program of winsome ballads ("A Little Too Lonely"), Cuban-influenced numbers ("Shine A Light"), and classic '70s pop (a lovely cover of the Hollies hit "The Air That I Breathe"). As a bonus, the original "maverick" of country music, Willie Nelson, guests on "Time Goes By." Live Recording Additional personnel includes: Willie Nelson (vocals). Personnel: Raul Malo (vocals, guitar, melodica); Eddie Perez (guitar, background vocals); Kenny Greenberg (guitar); Jimmy Bowland (alto saxophone); Jim Hoke (tenor saxophone); Doug Moffet (baritone saxophone); Jim Williamson, Matt Nygren (trumpet); Chris Dunn, Billy Huber (trombone); Gordon Mote (Mellotron, keyboards); John Hobbs (keyboards); Glenn Worf (upright bass); Paul Deakin (drums); Eric Darken, Glen Caruba (percussion); Robert Reynolds (background vocals). ...See Full Description

I Love the Mavericks I was very disappointed when I heard they had split up a few years ago so I was ecstatic to learn of their new cd release. This one is every bit as good as the others, maybe better. Raul brings me close to tears with "Too Lonley" and makes me want to get up and dance my heart out with "Shine Your Light". There is also so much diversity, I mean I love the dramatic feel of "in My Dreams" as well as an almost Beatles sound with "Would You Believe". I think anyone who loves and appreciates a wide variety of music will absolutely love this CD. By a reviewer (Birmingham, Al)
The Mavericks Are Back! I've loved The Mavericks since What A Crying Shame came out. And loved them even more when Tramploine came out. The horn sound is amazing, and I think it expands their ability to play any song at anytime, which they are prone to doing. "The Mavericks" is the return of one of the best bands in music period. This album is a tremendous effort and a great combination of everything from before Trampoline, during and after. Now if they'd finally get that big push on the North American music scene to pop instead of country, we'd really be on to something. Check out The Mavericks! By jhunt (Thunder Bay, ON Canada)
One of the best I just had to say after listening to this CD at least twice, it is the best of their music to date -- all ends of the spectrum -- great music, as usual, from The Mavericks. By mgmaverk1 (Dover, PA, USA) This review is for a different format.
Surround sound is unspectacular on this disc Compared to other DVD-A surround sound discs I have, this one just doesn't seem to make good use of the technology. Virtually indistinquisable from the stereo disc. By Gary (Irvine, CA, USA) This review is for a different format.
| Mavericks: They're back!! This is classic Mavericks! Lead singer Raul Malo belongs with these guys. They obviously feed off each other. The songs are great...some have that rock-a-billy sound, others are beautiful ballads. Even some light jazz in the mix. That's what makes the Mavericks so darn good...they can sing & play virtually anything & make it sound dynamite. This album's a breath of much-needed fresh air!
