Talvin Singh Back To Mine CD (2001)
20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of John Hiatt CD music Encompassing the chilled tabla of Ha and the quiet diversity of previous Back to Mine releases, Talvin Singh's attempt is coherent, economical, and occasionally excellent. Singh brings Craig Armstrong's darkly cinematic "Weather Storm" to the same table as the lesser-known stoned ghazals of Swati Natekar, the mandolin downtempo of U. Srinvas, the cold, mantric African rhythms of Ali Farka Toure, and Trilok Gurtu's "Om," which is the closest this planet has gotten to producing something that sounds like a Bombay-born Brian Eno. There are seamless appearances from Photek, Vibrasphere, and Dreadzone as well. It's a tight, well-crafted experience that rarely misses its mark and uses a variety of styles without irony or authenticity scoring. ~ Dean Carlson

Insane Clown Posse Wraith: Shangri-La CD (2002)
20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of John Hiatt buy CD music This release includes a bonus DVD featuring live performance footage.
Detroit cartoon/shock rappers Insane Clown Posse unveil an album that is described as both a "masterpiece" and "ten years in the making." ISP function on a plane with it's own set of rules and boundaries, populated by the underground group's devotees, known endearingly as Juggalos.
After years of bouncing between major and indie labels, ICP continue a record of success that clearly challenges convention, be it with merchandising, comic books, self-produced movies and music. Newcomers to Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope's 'Dark Carnival' get a comprehensive tour on THE WRAITH, beginning with "Welcome To The Show." Saggy The Clown terrorizes children in "Birthday B*t*hes," while "The Unveiling" revisits the group's apocalyptic musings. THE WRAITH includes a companion DVD disc with live performance footage recorded in 2002.
This classic ICP album is being re-issued in the original two versions, including an exclusive bonus DVD featuring ICP's performance at the 2002 Gathering of the Juggalos.
Includes liner notes by Violent J.

Randy Weston Live In St. Lucia CD (2003)
20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of John Hiatt buy CD music Randy Weston leads his African Rhythms Quintet in this concert recorded in St. Lucia circa 2002. With alto saxophonist/flautist T.K. Blue, trombonist Benny Powell, bassist Alex Blake, and percussionist Neil Clarke, Weston revisits a number of his exotic, African-influenced originals, starting off with the turbo-charged "African Cookbook" and the haunting, deliberate "The Shrine." "African Sunrise" has also long been a part of the pianist's repertoire; this version begins with his powerful solo before settling down to a loping pace as the band enters. "Little Niles," first written for Weston's then-young son nearly a half-century prior to this performance, is still a masterpiece, though this introspective interpretation reveals new facets of this gem. Weston closes this exciting set with his hypnotic, driving "Blue Moses" with T.K. Blue switching to soprano sax. Beautifully photographed and edited with top-notch audio, this DVD should be considered essential for fans of Randy Weston. ~ Ken Dryden
Personnel: Randy Weston (piano); T.K. Blue (saxophone, flute); Benny Powell (trombone); Alex Blake (acoustic bass); Neil Clarke (percussion).
