| | Keiko Matsui White Owl CD Keiko Matsui Discography of CDs
Kazu Matsui (shakuhachi); Alberto De Almar (guitar); Mel Brown (bass); Jonathan Dresel (drums).
Recorded live at Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Tokyo, Japan, in 2002.
There's no more spiritual experience in contemporary jazz than a live show by composer/keyboardist Matsui, who blends lush keyboard melodies, explosive improvisations, and a true Eastern spirit drawn from her Japanese heritage. White Owl, a special-edition CD/DVD, captures Matsui's vibrant 2002 live performance at Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Tokyo, where she played many of her best-loved tunes with her regular band (including the prominent Michael Ghegan on sax, Mel Brown on bass, and husband Kazu Matsui on the shakuhachi flute). The audio portion includes new tunes like the title track as well as groove-intensive, sax-driven standbys "Moonlight Sailor" and "Across the Sun." There are also three solo piano pieces that offer a rare intimate look at Matsui's classically inspired piano passions. The DVD includes 15 songs and clips from Matsui's travels in the U.S.A., Morocco, South Africa, and Istanbul. ~ Jonathan Widran
This limited edition CD/DVD combo includes a complete live concert on both CD & DVD.
This includes a bonus DVD.

White Owl album
$14.38 Orchestral and choral arrangements of rock songs have been a curious subgenre ever since the mid-'60s when Andrew Loog Oldham arranged The Rolling Stones Songbook for syrupy strings, but The Kinks Choral Collection stands apart from the pack for the simple reason that it's not the project of some associate or admirer, but rather chief Kink Ray Davies. His very presence as arranger and lead vocal means The Kinks Choral Collection isn't nearly as stuffy and middlebrow as so many of these orchestral rock albums; he manages to inject some semblance of rock & roll by pushing the songs forward with guitar, ...

White Owl songs
$6.25 Dave Brubeck's TIME OUT ranks alongside Miles Davis' KIND OF BLUE as one of the few advanced jazz masterpieces to achieve great commercial success. In fact, the widespread popularity of TIME OUT, with its cool-toned ambience, smooth style, and elements borrowed from classical music, helped make modern jazz a mainstream phenomenon.

White Owl album

Digitally remastered by Eliot Goshman (1995, Taragon Studios, Deer Park, New York).
Beginning with Louis Armstrong, through Harry James and Bobby Hackett of the Jackie Gleason Orchestra, the trumpet was once a king in pop music. This was true even in '60s-era easy listening, as demonstrated by the success of Al Hirt, Herb Alpert, and the ultra-shrewd German musician Bert Kaempfert, who probably was as responsible as anyone ...

| | Illusion Of Safety Bad Karma CD (1999)
White Owl songs
$13.89 Illusion of Safety is an experimental and amorphous project. This shape-shifting ensemble is the wizardry of Dan Burke, head of Complacency Records. Burke works with a few different people on each Illusion of Safety album. Bad Karma is an abrasive collage of harsh sounds and disorienting dialog soundbites. While some Illusion of Safety recordings are otherworldly synth sounds to gently wear away the day's stresses, don't think of this caustic Illusion of Safety release as sonic balm. ~ Tom Schulte
Born 1983. Illusion Of Safety intrepidly charts the terra incognita where sound, silence, noise and music intersect. Using conventional instruments, sound generating devices and random objects, IOS hews sonic sculptures that deliberately provoke, mesmerize and even affront listeners. Their work has been continually evolving, never settling into an easy niche. Since 1991 IOS have released 20 CDs on labels such as Silent, OddSize, Staalplaat, Soleilmoon, Manifold, Tesco, Die Stadt, Ossosnossos, and Complacency. Their work has been called ambient, post-industrial, electro-acoustic, electronica, noise, sound collage, improvisation, and power-electronics. Unable to categorize their work into one style, each release, live performance, and sometimes individual piece often shifts abruptly from one atmosphere to another. Leading some to describe their output as schizophrenic. Referencing external & enhancing internal locations, manipulating semi-recognizable elements in structures of a re-arranged language of error. Destroyed music, broken sound, disturbed ambience and the quest for the sublime.Sounds of Hell, May 19, 2007I am a huge fan of Illusion of Safety (IOS). My goal it to own all of Dan Burke's IOS ...
