Sevendust: Lajon Witherspoon (vocals); Clint Lowery (guitar, background vocals); John Connolly (guitar); Vince Hornsby (bass); Morgan Rose (drums, background vocals). Recorded at Ruby Red Studios & Brannon Studios, Atlanta, Georgia. Includes a limited edition bonus DVD. In the late '90s and early 2000s, there were countless alternative metal bands that were similar to Sevendust in many respects -- bands that could be bone crushing but also had a sense of melody; bands that thrived on dark, angst-ridden lyrics and were as angry as they were introspective. But most of them couldn't match Sevendust's excellence; even if they had the basics down, their writing wasn't as consistent. Plus, they didn't have anyone as exciting as lead singer Lajon Witherspoon (whose soulful, R&B-influenced vocals set Sevendust apart from most of the group's competitors in the alt-metal field). Released in 2003, the Atlanta residents' fourth album, Seasons, came six years after their 1997 debut -- and creatively, they didn't lose any momentum on this forceful yet melodic CD. Surprisingly, Seasons was produced by singer/songwriter Butch Walker, who is known for his years with Marvelous 3 and is generally a lot more pop-minded than Witherspoon and his colleagues -- not exactly the first person one would expect to produce a Sevendust disc. But in fact, Walker produced some demos for Sevendust before the band signed with TVT (back when the group was known as Crawlspace). And even though Walker doesn't have a long resumé when it comes to alt-metal, he works out well on Seasons. From the burning anger of "Enemy" (drummer Morgan Rose's blistering attack on former Coal Chamber singer B. Dez Fafara) to the dark introspection of "Suffocate," "Broken Down," "Separate," and "Skeleton Song," Seasons is far from a happy CD, but it's a compelling one -- perhaps too dark for some listeners, but compelling nonetheless -- and Sevendust continues to live up to its high standards throughout the band's fourth album. ~ Alex Henderson Sevendust have toiled away for years, recording and touring as underdog soldiers while lesser hard-rock acts have achieved success with luck as opposed to raw talent. The Atlanta quintet's fourth studio release finds the band grooving harder, with less focus on machine-gun-syncopation and grinding, chugging riffs (a trademark of their earlier works). SEASONS is arguably the band's crossover album, boasting huge choruses with killer hooks. Songwriting/producing guru Butch Walker (formerly of the Marvelous 3) has lent his magic touch to up-and-comers Injected and Bowling for Soup (the latter resulting in a Grammy nomination for "Girl All the Bad Guys Want"), and now puts his unmistakable stamp on album tracks "Enemy" and "Separate," as well as the title cut, which he co-wrote with the group. Much of the creative angst behind SEASONS seems to be driven by tragic personal losses that members of the band struggled with during production. This therapeutic expression delivers Sevendust's most heartfelt collection of songs to date.
Seasons Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Heavy yet melodic In my opinion, this is sevendusts' best effort yet. Although it isn's quite as heavy as their last 3 albums, it still has that metal edge that makes them one of the best metal bands around. They went more for a melodic kind of heaviness this time around. Face it, that's not an easy task. But these 5 boys hit the nail on the head. If you like heavy music but can't stand all the screaming, this is definitely a good pick. Submitted by live4music (Campbell, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Sevendust - Seasons...one rockin album This album was everything I expected and more from one of the best bands going around, full of awesome verses and every chorus is super catchy melodic and harmonic. Each song is full of passion and actually has some meaning, unlike alot of the songs out there today which are written by a bunch of drunk or stoned losers about absolutely nothing. I give this CD 11 out of 10 and would reccomend it to anyone that likes music that sends a shiver down your spine and leaves you singin it for hours and hours afterwards, Good Stuff Submitted by animal1_666 (Tasmania, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? just freakin awsome Man this had to have been the best album I've heard all year(well last year). Yeah Lajon was more melodic but Morgan and Clint's backing vocals were at their best. The music was heavier than that of animosity as well as the lyrics and more of that like self titled. Surely to please Sevendust fans. Submitted by mlaroche (somewhere) Was This Review Helpful? Their best so far ! This is the best album so far. Yes there are some songs better than others but their all great.
I can't wait for their new album "Next" which comes on Oct 11. I heard a song called "Pieces" and it rocks.
The bad part is that Clint left the band but ex- Hed (p.e.)Guitarist will be their new guitarist.
It will never be the same without Clint Submitted by John (Moncton,NB,CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

The DVD wil contain more than 2 hours of footage; Live footage, interview, more than 45 minutes "the making of..." documentary that follows the band from early November 2005 from the initial song writing to the finish in mid May 2006. Mercenary (Metal): Mikkel Sandager (vocals); Jakob Molbjerg, Martin Buus (guitar); Morten Sandager (keyboards, background vocals); Mike Park (drums). The Danish metal band Mercenary specializes in sophisticated, epic sonic adventures featuring layered, plangent guitars, and a propulsive yet subtle rhythm section. On THE HOURS THAT REMAIN, the band substitutes finely honed harmonies for the guttural vocal shrieks and roars of many of its contemporaries on tracks like the threatening "Year of the Plague," the stampeding "Soul Decision," and the impressively realized title track. This double-CD set includes a bonus disc featuring live footage, band interviews, and a short documentary on the making of the album. After struggling for recognition and creative direction throughout the '90s, Denmark's Mercenary finally turned some heads and hit their creative stride with 2004's acclaimed 11 Dreams: a sophisticated ...
| | L J Booth Ox That Pulls The Cart CD (2002)
Seasons
$18.99 LJs new CD is a collection of intricate, luminescent gems.-DAVID WILCOX LJ Booth is as literate as they come. As a lyricist he has the light touch of Lyle Lovett, the unabashed honesty of Leonard Cohen and the sprawling, joyous life of Walt Whitman. The plainness of his imagery and the economy of his phrasing is only made more effective by his glittering guitar parts and the simple grace of his songs. His vocal approach also possesses the effective simplicity of Lyle Lovett with a little Gordon Lightfoot thrown in. On the more raucous tunes like "Hold On!" and the fiddle-driven "Changing Sky," Booth is still completely in control, driving the ...
