Personnel: Dave Weckl (drums, percussion); Brandon Fields (tenor saxophone); Gary Meek (saxophone); Jerry Hey, Gary Grant (trumpet); Bill Reichenbach (trombone); Steve Weingart (keyboards); Tom Kennedy (electric bass). Recorded live at Catalina Bar & Grill, Los Angeles, California in December 2002. Personnel: Dave Weckl (drums, percussion); Gary Meek (saxophone, tenor saxophone); Brandon Fields (tenor saxophone); Gary Grant, Jerry Hey (trumpet); Bill Reichenbach Jr. (trombone); Steve Weingart (keyboards); Tom Kennedy (electric bass). Audio Mixer: Dave Weckl. Recording information: Catalina Bar And Grill, Hollywood, CA (12/17/2002-12/22/2002). Editor: Dave Weckl. Photographer: Ninoska Weckl. Dave Weckl usually performs a couple weeks a year at Catalina's in Hollywood. This two-CD set features his 2002 quartet, a versatile unit comprised of the leader/drummer, keyboardist Steve Weingart, electric bassist Tom Kennedy, and saxophonist Gary Meek. Their music is reminiscent of the Yellowjackets and (during its Jaco phase) Weather Report, with Weingart sometimes hinting at Chick Corea. The styles range from groovin' fusion to post-bop, with very good musicianship, creative solos, and generally interesting originals. Weckl is a powerful drummer yet is quite subtle during much of this set. One of the highlights of the two-fer is a spirited version of "The Chicken," but all of these selections work well, especially the music on the first disc. Things bog down a little during Thelonious Monk's "Rhythm-A-Ning" (a bass/drum duet that puts the focus on Kennedy) and the drum solo "Cultural Concurrence," but the other ten numbers feature the full quartet in prime form. The closing "Tiempo de Festival" uses a sample of four horns from an earlier date and is triggered through Weingart's keyboards. Highly recommended. ~ Scott Yanow Dave Weckl Band: Live & Very Plugged In Music Dave Weckl Band: Live & Very Plugged In Songs Dave Weckl Band: Live & Very Plugged In Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Dave Weckl in full effect Very creative and very tastefull... maybe not as impressive as on the new chick corea cd - To The Stars but just as powerfull... Dave Weckl plays magic Dave Weckl sounds live great. He plays a lot of unplayable grooves and Kennedy on the bass is as good as the tandem with John Patitucci. I also likes Weingart on the keys, because he plays a nice melody, but his strength is the rhythm. Gary Meek replaced Brandon Fields. They play different and I like them both. This music will be enjoyed by drumplayers, but it has a lot to offer to the general music lover. It makes me happy to listen to this superb music. Soloing By Weingart is "Sick" Dude! For the past few months I've had this CD, I play it in my car in the morning going to work, and again when going home. At the conclusion of ever keyboard solo by Steve Weingart, I hit rewind and listen to it again at least 3 or 4 times. Incredible... And you KNOW Weckl is too. But everybody on the whole CD is just incredible... Submitted by koliver_atl (Atlanta, GA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Dave Weckl Band: Live & Very Plugged In
$18.69 Audio Remasterers: John Strother; Aaron Hook. Authors: Johnny Phillips ; Crosby, David & Graham Nash; Al Kooper; Michelle Phillips; Steve Miller . Photographer: Elaine Mayes. Arranger: Shankar. It is fascinating that each major release cycle of the music from the Monterey International Pop Festival (it was originally billed as "the first," but there never was another one) has taken place amid a new cycle in American technology or marketing. Woodstock may have copped the biggest press exposure, but the owners of that property were asleep at the switch while those behind the charitable cause for which Monterey was originally organized have done their work well and nimbly. The original commercial incarnation barely trickled out after 1968, the Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix, Ravi Shankar, and Mamas & the Papas sets showing up on vinyl as individual sides or complete LPs, respectively. The movie Monterey Pop -- originally shot for an intended ABC network special but ultimately released as a feature film -- was also out there, enticing audiences and fans with performances by a brace of major artists, among them Janis Joplin, the Jefferson Airplane, Simon & Garfunkel, et al., and it did make a brief appearance on VHS tape by way of Sony in the mid-'80s. Portions of the Who's set surfaced in documentaries about that band, but most of the rest remained locked up. Then, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary in 1987, a plunge by the producers and various engineers back into the tapes for an extended radio special -- which coincided with the CD boom -- resulted in a huge (though incomplete) treasure trove of performances, including Janis Joplin with Big Brother & the Holding Company, Eric Burdon & the Animals, Country Joe & the Fish, Hugh Masekela, Paul Butterfield, the Jefferson Airplane, the Byrds, and Booker T. & the MG's. There was a hugely expensive box set from Rhino with a cool booklet, and also a set of bootleg CDs -- among the most widely circulated of that latter category of release at the time -- that included material by the Buffalo Springfield and the Grateful Dead that was on the radio special but not ...

$13.15 HIGHLORD joined together in 1996 with the monicker AVATAR. The band recorded a demo tape featuring the songs eventually released in the first album. Thanks to that tape label Underground Symphony had them sign for its roster, but because of line-up problems the band wasn't able to record the cd.After a while the band reached a new agreement with another label, Northwind Records, to record its debut cd. New singer Vascè joined in and ‘Heir of Power’ was finally recorded ...
