This instrumental trio lovingly delivers original renditions of Bob Dylan songs. The warm, intimate, live sound fits the low-key mood as Michael Moore, Lindsey Horner, and Michael Vatcher pay tribute to the great songwriter. The main focus is on Dylan's '60s material, although a few later songs appear: "Dark Eyes" from 1985's Empire Burlesque and "Two Soldiers," one of the traditional tunes that Dylan covered on his 1993 album, World Gone Wrong. Moore spends most of his time on clarinet and bass clarinet, with a little bit of alto sax and melodica. Percussionist Michael Vatcher uses a fittingly light touch, spending a lot of time with brushes, and accenting with shells. Bassist Lindsey Horner has a strong presence, and is equally adept as impetus and anchor. The opener, "I Pity the Poor Immigrant," is sympathetic and gently sad, featuring some impressive fingerwork from Horner. The group does a very pretty version of "Fourth Time Around," and also beautiful are the versions of "Visions of Johanna" (with Moore on bass clarinet) and "Boots of Spanish Leather." The group takes more liberties with "Two Soldiers" and "With God on Our Side," but never drops the melody altogether. ~ Joslyn Layne Jewels & Binoculars: The Music Of Bob Dylan Music Michael Moore Jewels & Binoculars: The Music Of Bob Dylan Songs | 1. | I Pity the Poor Immigrant |

Jewels & Binoculars: The Music Of Bob Dylan album
$14.38 Orchestral and choral arrangements of rock songs have been a curious subgenre ever since the mid-'60s when Andrew Loog Oldham arranged The Rolling Stones Songbook for syrupy strings, but The Kinks Choral Collection stands apart from the pack for the simple reason that it's not the project of some associate or admirer, ...

Jewels & Binoculars: The Music Of Bob Dylan album
$13.69 Recorded between 1960 and 1967. Includes liner notes by Steve Kolanjian.
Digitally remastered by Eliot Goshman (1995, Taragon Studios, Deer Park, New York).
Beginning with Louis Armstrong, through Harry James and Bobby Hackett of the Jackie Gleason Orchestra, the trumpet was once a king in pop music. This was true even in '60s-era easy listening, as demonstrated by the success of Al Hirt, Herb Alpert, and the ultra-shrewd German musician Bert Kaempfert, who probably was as responsible as anyone else in rehabilitating Germany's post-war world image. ...

Jewels & Binoculars: The Music Of Bob Dylan music CDs
$9.75 Here we have a summit meeting late in the careers of the pioneering titans of Afro-Cuban jazz -- Dizzy Gillespie fronting the Machito orchestra on trumpet, with Mario Bauza as music director, alto saxophonist/clarinetist, and organizing force, and Chico O'Farrill contributing the compositions and arrangements. This could have been just a nostalgic retro gathering 25 years after the fact, but instead, these guys put forth an ambitious effort to push the boundaries of the idiom. The centerpiece is a 15-minute ...

$12.09 Audiophile Records, to its everlasting credit, has become a home for pop singers who were once dominant in their field but as they (and their fans) got a bit older had a harder time finding recording contracts, even though their talent had diminished hardly a whit, if at all. More often than not their singing has matured, became more sophisticated, and ...

While so many of the more renowned genre artists experienced creative and commercial highs and lows, Ken Navarro proved to be one of the most consistent in both arenas. His secret? An uncanny ability to compose breezy, delectable ...
