Last Train To Mashville, Vol. 2 album
$18.74 Whereas Alice Cooper's first two studio albums, 1969's PRETTIES FOR YOU and 1970's EASY ACTION, tended more towards the trippy excesses of the hippie era, their next one, 1971's LOVE IT TO DEATH introduced the world to the heavy sound that Cooper would soon be taking to the top. With the invaluable production assistance of future Pink Floyd/Lou Reed cohort Bob Ezrin, LOVE IT TO DEATH proved Alice Cooper's ...
| | Joe Walsh Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get CD (1973) Gold
Last Train To Mashville, Vol. 2 CD music
$18.74 "Rocky Mountain Way," the tune that opens Joe Walsh's sophomore release (and remains one of his best-known songs), is a textbook example of Walsh's strengths. The song is driven by a slinky hard rock groove that boasts crunchy, distorted guitars, barrelhouse piano, wiry solos, and a catchy, singalong chorus--proving Walsh's penchant for mixing rock elements and radio-ready accessibility with a sense of wit and fun. The rest of SMOKER YOU DRINK, PLAYER YOU GET follows suit, with the mid-tempo rock ballad "Bookends," the bouncy, Latin-tinged "Happy Ways," and the airy, ...

| | The Very Best Of Enya CDs (2009) With DVD
Last Train To Mashville, Vol. 2 songs
$21.00 Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener of the essentials. With tunes like "Orinoco Flow," "Caribbean Blue," and "Book of Days" in the pot and out of the way, it's easier to appreciate hidden gems like "Cursum Perficio," "Boadicea," "Trains and Winter Rains," and "Anywhere Is." Also notable is the inclusion of "May It Be" and a previously unreleased version of "Aníron (I Desire)," both of which originally appeared on the soundtrack for the first chapter of Peter Jackson's beloved Lord of the Rings trilogy. ~ James Christopher Monger

| | Mychael Danna Celtic Tale CD (1996)
Last Train To Mashville, Vol. 2 music CDs
$14.29 This version of A CELTIC TALE is narrated by Fiona Ritchie, host of The Thistle and Shamrock on NPR.
A CELTIC TALE is an ambitious undertaking from the brothers Danna, a musical interpretation of the Irish legend of Deirdre, the beautiful lass who, engaged to the King of Ulster, falls in love with another. Her tale of prophesied doom, romantic longing, and bloodshed is told with great sensitivity and power, always haunting but never melodramatic. The enclosed booklet recounts the tale, although, like a great film score, knowledge of the story isn't necessary to enjoy the music.
Early in the song cycle, the Dannas paint pastoral images with standard Celtic folk instruments and sweetly melancholy phrases. Harp, bodhran, Uillean pipes, tin whistle, various flutes, and mandolin recreate verdant fields and dark forests. As the tragedy unfolds, the sound becomes orchestral, almost stately. A martial theme with fife and drums introduces Dierdre's love interest, the hunter Naois. Later, a lively Irish reel sets the stage for a fateful encounter at an inn. Perhaps most moving is the one song here with lyrics, Dierdre's "Lament," sung in crystalline soprano by British folk singer Krysia Kocjan.
This album is also available with spoken narration, under the title A CELTIC TALE NARRATED BY FIONA RITCHIE. The Danna brothers released a follow-up record two years later called A CELTIC ROMANCE: THE LEGEND OF LIDAIN & CURITHIR.

| | Blow Bonus Album CD (2002)
Last Train To Mashville, Vol. 2 songs
$9.49 For almost any other label -- even underground, independent ones -- an album such as this would be viewed as willfully obtuse in its lo-fi production and casual enigmatic minimalism. For K Records, it's just another day at the office. And for Khaela Maricich, the singer/songwriter synonymous with Blow, these nonchalantly homespun songs are actually a slight expansion of the approach she used when she was releasing her work under the name Get the Hell Out of the Way of the Volcano. Maricich sings inscrutable, slightly child-like, seemingly off-the-cuff tunes about chocolates, people who bury themselves in the air, and making out to a Hüsker Dü record (the last of which is actually a cover of a song, "Jet Ski Accidents," by fellow K artist Wolf Colonel). Although this might have the feel of a particularly arty improvised ...
